If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would.
My partner and I came here to celebrate our anniversary after reading so many glowing reviews online. We had high expectations, but Morton’s somehow managed to exceed every one of them. From the moment we walked through the door, we knew we were in for a special evening.
We had a reservation, and the hostess greeted us immediately and escorted us to our table without any wait. Shortly after we were seated, our server came over, congratulated us on our anniversary, asked whether we had any dietary restrictions, and took the time to walk us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm. The service throughout the evening was attentive, professional, and warm without ever feeling intrusive.
The complimentary bread deserves its own paragraph. It was enormous—literally bigger than my face—and incredibly fresh. The crust had the perfect texture, the inside was soft and fluffy, and paired with the butter it was honestly one of the best restaurant bread services I've ever had. You can tell it's made with real care.
The absolute highlight of the night was the pork chop. This is, without question, the best pork chop I've ever eaten. It was unbelievably juicy, incredibly tender, and almost melted in my mouth. Every bite was packed with flavor, and the peach chutney complemented it perfectly without overpowering the meat. This is the kind of dish I would happily recommend to friends, and it's worth coming back for on its own.
The steak was also very good. It had a beautiful char, a rich smoky flavor from the grill, and was cooked exactly as requested. While the pork chop stole the show for me, the steak was still well above average and absolutely satisfying.
The corn chowder was comforting and flavorful, the green beans were cooked perfectly, and the cocktails were beautifully balanced with natural flavors—not overly sweet like many restaurants. Every course felt thoughtfully prepared.
Knowing we were celebrating our anniversary, the staff even offered to take photos for us and surprised us with thoughtful table decorations that made the evening feel even more special. Those small touches made a lasting impression and showed that they genuinely care about creating memorable experiences.
The only area that didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal was dessert. It was good, but compared to the exceptional quality of everything else, it wasn't particularly memorable. A couple of the desserts tasted more like premium wholesale products than something made in-house. They certainly weren't bad, but they just didn't have the same "wow" factor as the rest of the menu.
Overall, this was one of the best steakhouse experiences we've had. Exceptional service, an elegant atmosphere, outstanding food, and thoughtful hospitality made our anniversary truly memorable. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Portland—and I'll be ordering that pork chop again without hesitation.
