I felt welcomed as soon as I walk in, the atmosphere was enjoyable, it is not a quiet place, if you want to candlelight dinner with very soft music this is not the place for you. I like some noise and hearing people having a good time. The food from appetizer to entree was excellent. The Service received by Merete & Anthony the Bartender was excellent! Merete makes you feel happy that you're alive! Next time I'm in Portland I will definitely stop by here again!

We were staying at the hotel and had been exploring Portland all day. We went down fir dinner and had a crab and shrimp cake appetizer which was delicious. My husband had the prime rib and my daughter and I shared the stuffed salmon. Everything was very delicious. Daisha was an awesome server and was very attentive and quick. The atmosphere was upscale but relaxed.

We’re visiting Portland for the first time and my daughter was craving steak so we decided to go to Jake’s since the hotel recommended it. Let me break it down for ya:
Atmosphere: old timey but comfortable.
Staff: amazing from the host (Jake) to our server (Sherry), the service was attentive and as my daughter so nicely put it “bubbly!”
Food: here’s the fun part
- filet: perfectly medium rare, charred, good flavor without sauce
- ribeye: same as the filet (my daughter ate half the steak
- fries: crispy on the outside and flllluuffffffffyyy on the inside
- Mac and cheese: al dente with a nice mild cheese sauce
- mushrooms: my husbands favorite (over the filet) mushrooms were meaty, nicely seasoned and buttery
This place is worth visiting every time you make a stop to Portland.

Back in the early 2000s, if you visited Portland, two places everyone talked about were Jake’s Famous Crawfish and Jake’s Grill. Crawfish was the place for seafood, and Jake’s Grill was where you went for a classic steakhouse experience. We came here many times over the years, but as Portland’s food scene evolved with so many great new restaurants, we naturally stopped coming.
This trip, our hotel included breakfast vouchers, so after more than 20 years we decided to revisit Jake’s Grill. The nostalgia disappeared the moment we looked at the menu. My husband ordered the Denver Omelet, and I had the Breakfast Trio. The omelet was just average, but the pancakes were honestly some of the worst I’ve had. We each left most of our breakfast untouched.
What surprised me even more was how much the service had declined. Afterward, I learned that the restaurant became part of McCormick & Schmick’s, and many longtime customers have said both the food quality and service have gone downhill. That made a lot of sense to me. In fact, McCormick & Schmick’s has been one of the most disappointing chain restaurants I’ve visited, and even its Seattle location eventually closed.
It’s sad to see a restaurant that was once a Portland icon lose what made it special. Sometimes a great legacy doesn’t survive the wrong ownership.
That said, if you’re visiting Portland today, I’d skip Jake’s Grill. There are far better breakfast spots that truly represent the city’s incredible food scene.

Travelled here for work from Atlanta and was incredibly disappointed by the service. They undercooked my steak and Tucker decided to point at me and laugh with his coworkers about my request. I’m not a rude person and politely requested that it be cooked more, things happen.
They seemed to think that we were college kids, and treated us that way. Tried to give us the bill after only ordering appetizers. Steak was not great, and then was made well-done after I sent it back for not being medium well.
Don’t come here as a young professional.
EDIT; We returned for brunch and had a much better experience. James was an excellent server that treated us with respect and was funny, not sure what Tuckers issue was.
