I went sloppy and tried the Jake’s Traditional Bouillabaisse but first oysters on the half shell and a wedge salad. The oysters were spot on and you really cannot go wrong with PNW oysters. They were briny but great. The wedge salad was out of this world. I would rate this as one of the top wedge salads I've ever had. But then it only got better when the Bouillabaisse showed up. Holy sloppy happiness Batman. When they bring a bib to the table, get ready for some goodness.
Then entire experience from the ambiance to the food and service were all fantastic. I would highly recommend everything I had and will definitely be back to further indulge.

We had clam chowder, lobster bisque, fish and chips and seafood Alfredo. The soups and Alfredo were absolutely delicious as was the sourdough bread. The fish was chewy, maybe overcooked. The portions left no room for dessert.

We celebrated my husband's 65th birthday with family , and my reason for 4 stars is , we were a party of 5 , we are also not stick people , not obese per say but it was obvious the corner table was going to be uncomfortable. I mentioned to our server that I had concerns about comfortable fit ( that was my discreet way of asking for different table , especially since the rest of our party was getting near . ) I was told , we'll just see and we can always change if needed . Yeah , we had an uncomfortable meal . 3 people were fine , my son and I not so much.
The food was excellent , but if you need to sit comfortably, I would ask when calling the restaurant.
Stopped in for lunch, and had the crab bisque and Jake's Etouffee. Both were simply excellent! The highlight however, was our waiter, Anthony! He was warm, personable and naturally driven to make our visit a memorable one! Management take notice.....) Jake's is a Historic Gem in Portland a Must Visit!
Jake was an early pioneer who came to Portland in 1876. To keep him company on the long trip he brought along his pet crawfish, Herbie. Herbie was very talented and could carry a conversation in three languages. On the long journey, Herbie, in his boredom, memorized a lot of Shakespeare and other plays, and when they reached Portland Herbie used to entertain Jake and his friend with his readings. So uncanny were his recitation of these, with multiple character voices and accents, that folks came from miles around to listen to Jake's Famous Crawfish recite these plays. So Jake was forced to start preparing tasty meals to serve his guests, and a wonderful resteraunt was born. I may have misunderstood some of this.
Jake's is an old school fish house, with exquisite service, elegant, well-prepared meals, a well stocked bar, and tasty desserts. If you are looking for a nice evening out, this is your place. I know you'll enjoy it.
Tell them Herbie sent you!
