I really like the people who work here. They are all doing their best, despite a few complications with things out of their control. Recently there has been something that has caused my allergies to go crazy when i go in. I think its something in the floral or produce section. Still 5☆ because of the people.

I have lived down the street for about two years and have gone there A LOT in that time. I have never had any issues with employees (most of them have been pretty nice) until recently.
I was walking around the store pretty fast (as I know it pretty well) and was indecisive on what I wanted. I stopped at an endcap toward the back of the store and an employee comes from the back doors looking directly at me the entire time. He approaches me and asks ifi need help finding anything. I say "no I'm just looking around. Feeling indecisive, I was about to read an ingredients list on the back of this bag". He keeps standing there, smirking and side eyeing me the entire time as if caught me doing something. I don't know what this guy wants so I make small talk and he keeps bringing up if I have time and that I have plenty of time - apparently he was watching me and noticed I was walking around fast? I get theft prevention, but I've been a customer here a lot and I've never done anything wrong. Plus, this guy was making me feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable with this interaction that just wouldn't end.
I complained to a manager at the front (a middle aged lady who I've seen a couple of times but never see her name tag). I politely and civily (somewhat sheepishly because I hate doing these things) told her that there was an employee that came out from the back and was acting like I was about to steal something and it was kinda rude. She seemed to understand and asked what he looked like. I described him. She said she'd talk to him.
I went back thinking it was settled two days later before close (so it was just me a couple of people in the store). I went to the back to get sausage, and over the loudspeaker the same manager I talked to previously announced it was 20 minutes to close and the back doors were "not a portal to another place" and "if you see Carl, he's just doing his job" (as I saw the same employee as prior emerge from the back I'm pretty sure Carl is the gentleman that made me feel uncomfortable before).
...did this manager just get passive agressive over the loudspeaker? It was positively surreal.
I think it's important to note a couple weeks prior to this incident I saw a charge on my bank statement from Safeway from a day I wasn't there for an amount that seemed unlikely to anything I purchased. I figured maybe it was from a prior purchase that took a while to go through, but every other purchase I made posted on the day I purchased something. The only thing close was the price of a bottle of acetaminophen that I decided was too pricey and had the cashier remove from my cart (which the cashier then set in the bagging area after she removed it and I made certain not to take with me).
I don't think I want to go back to this store. What were pleasant trips to the local grocery now make me feel extremely anxious. It's terrible as I was quite fond of this store until recently and had only good things to say about many staff members who were always kind (and complimented my clothes sometimes).
I saw in these reviews a similar incident happened to someone 6 months ago. I guess they make enough money to treat customers badly and pat themselves on the back for "preventing theft". Pro-tip: it only helps if you're harassing ACTUAL THIEVES.
