My past couple Sonic visits have been interesting at Alameda.
I had a hankering for some mozz sticks about a month ago and knew it was close so i tried to order from the app but my order while set at Alameda was denied so I had to order in person instead, where I was met with a relatively empty parking lot. Weird. And trust me, this wasn’t a money thing on my end. I don’t have enough money for most things, but I have enough for some mozz sticks. All things considered, I still got the mozz sticks, but was not given marinara sauce. Kind of a big deal imo.
Then at my last visit we (me and my chick) pulled into the Alameda location and found a busier parking lot with a sports team eating at the table area, two parked cars that didn’t appear associated with the sports team, I’m assuming they belonged to the employees, and two more cars in the drive thru waiting for their orders. I pulled up to the drive thru where I waited for roughly 5min until I was told by one of the employees that they were temporarily not taking orders, so I just said “okay” and went to Whattaburger on Classen and got bomb service like normal cuz they rule. Still weird.
On my first of two visits, I originally concluded that the app was somehow down because of the recent storms that took out a lot of power in the area. But that doesn’t explain my second visit, and it’s not every day that a fast food restaurant tells it’s customers they can’t perform their only marketed service, food, especially when they weren’t slammed with business. This second trip was the busiest I’d ever seen this location in my one year living in Norman, and it really wasn’t that busy, even for what appeared to be two active employees. But, if you really are slammed with orders, I think a more professional response towards a customer is to be honest about your situation, explain that orders might take longer than expected, and let them decide whether or not to stay. There’s much more respect found in transparency versus taking away my God-given right to mozz sticks. Those little golden dairy tubes are always worth the wait. But don’t forget the marinara sauce. Please.
And now after some minimal research and my recent experiences, it appears Sonic on Alameda has decided to limit or stop any mobile orders from coming thru at all to keep from getting overwhelmed with orders, as well as orders they receive at their physical location. But trust me, there’s nothing overwhelming about Sonic on Alameda.
I’d like to end this review with an analogy. Visualize a toilet. Wouldn’t you be a little upset and confused if it could decide when it would provide its only service to you? Well, in a way, that’s kind of what’s happened here. I hope Sonic can fix their toilet on Alameda sooner rather than later, because it’s starting to get a little backed up over there… and it stinks.
