I feel that businesses like this need more honest due to the lack of customer service being provided.
I recently visited the Jimmy John's located on the YSU campus, and unfortunately, this will be my last visit to this particular location.
To begin with, the parking situation is extremely inconvenient for non-campus patrons. I spent at least 15 minutes driving around trying to find a place to park that would allow me to go inside and place a to-go order. I understand the challenges that come with being located on a college campus, but not having any designated parking area for customers picking up food is unacceptable.
After finally finding parking, I went inside to place my order. There was no line, and I took a moment to review the menu to make sure I was choosing something that fit within my calorie deficit goals. While I had a general idea of what I wanted, I wanted to confirm a few details before ordering.
During that time, the employee at the counter repeatedly looked at me as though I was taking too long, which made me feel rushed despite there being no other customers waiting.
I ordered a Turkey Tom with extra turkey and requested that the middle of the bread be removed. His response was, "It's already removed. Do you want it back in?" I replied, "No."
As my sandwich was being prepared, I noticed mayonnaise being added. At that point, I stopped the employee and stated that I did not want mayo. Only then was I informed that the sandwich automatically comes with mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. Had this been explained when I placed my order, it would have prevented the confusion.
After I requested pickles, the employee turned to the sandwich maker and asked, "Did you get that?" He then immediately told me to tap my card for payment if there was nothing else. I found this confusing because I wasn't asked if I wanted any additional toppings, and I felt pressured to complete the transaction before I had the opportunity to customize my sandwich. Again, there was no one else in line waiting.
Once my sandwich was finished, I asked for a small cup of onions on the side because I had not been given enough time to add all the toppings I wanted while ordering.
I share this experience because sometimes taking an extra minute with a customer is perfectly acceptable. Not every interaction needs to feel rushed. Customer service is about communication and making customers feel welcomed, not pressured.
I did not appreciate my experience at this location, especially considering how busy it likely becomes throughout the day with the college nearby. If customer service is lacking when there is no line, I can only imagine what it's like during peak hours.
Unfortunately, this visit has convinced me that I will not be returning to this Jimmy John's location.
