I'm not sure what happened to customer service, especially when it comes to damage control, but someone has to teach the up and coming to do better. A couple of weeks ago, we ordered Papa John's at around 7:00 pm, and was quoted 35-45 minutes for the delivery, which was completely fine. Moments later, the tracker from the app informed us that our order left the store at 7:20 pm. Having worked in this industry before, I gave the driver a ten minute grace period before I called the store at 7:55 pm to inquire about how much longer it would take before arrival. The "manager" claimed the tracker was inaccurate, and initially was trying to evade calling the driver to get an estimated time of arrival, but I refused to end the call until she checked, as my order was going on 15 minutes late. She placed me on hold, then told me the driver was still about 15 minutes away from my place, which meant that my food was going to be a half hour late. I asked the "manager" to give me a discount for my order being late: she claimed that wasn't an option, and the best that she could do was offer me a discount for my next order. I'm not sure about the rest of the cyber universe, but it was unacceptable having to pay full price for cold food, and have to risk subpar service again to get the discount that I requested. I stood my ground, and told the "manager" that if a discount for the current order isn't an option to take the food back. She then proceeded to argue with me about this, telling me the driver was almost to my place. This went on for a few more minutes and still no food, but I refused to accept the "manager's" offer, asked for a refund, and ended the call. Moments later, the app informed me the order was marked as delivered. My wife left a not-so-great review about our experience via the Papa John's app, and the real manager contacted her the next day to issue the refund. Needless to say, this is why Papa John's sucks, and that location will never get my business again. Side note: as a small business owner, I'm appalled at how this "manager," who's probably just barely out of high school, and is slightly older than the people that she "manages," handled the situation. As a former pizza delivery service person, if an order was late and someone spoke up about it, we made it right -- right there on the spot -- no questions asked, regardless of how we felt about it. (Go Team LaRosa's!) Do better, people of Papa John's! Please and thank you!
