Food was delicious and steaks came out perfect; however, service was poor. Took several minutes for two drinks to come out and they were visibly flat, sitting for some time. Server waited to hand half the table appetizers before table received their drinks. For this quality restaurant I expect a certain level of satisfaction that was not met with. My family was frustrated at the service but enjoyed the food overall.

It has been a while since I have received the level of service and professionalism that my family and I received this past Sunday at J. Gilbert's. We planned dinner for my daughter's graduation from OSU. I had to adjust my reservation 3 different times and each time they were accommodating which I didn't expect. Not because they wouldn't do it, but if they could because it was also Mother's day. When we arrived we took some family pictures with the graduate and the manager from the restaurant came and offered to take the pictures so we could all be in the shot. That was completely unexpected. Once we were seated we noticed a hand written card congratulating my daughter on her graduation and mentioned her be name. That was a very special touch that made my daughter smile. Our server, Mercedes, was outstanding. She handled our larger party with a high level of professionalism and kindness spending time to chat with us while getting everything perfect. The food was AMAZING and I believe everyone cleaned their plate. Thank you for making my daughter's graduation dinner special and memorable and for an outstanding dining experience.

Food negatives: brown lettuce, steaks flavor not good, $ value, Positive, baked potatoes, bread, veggies. Service negatives: no one picked up the 4th service, we were party of 3. ordered water got hot water for tea, server stuck his hand into my buttered bread, was served main course and didn't see our server until finished, asked nearby servers (twice) for refills, watched our server tell a life story to nearby table (10 minutes). Positive: observed most staff hustling and helping others. Atmosphere: funeral home, lights dimmed during afternoon. My mother enjoyed the time, she is a resident of a senior center.

Went on/for mother's day 2026 and could not have had a better experience!! Had the most unreal rack of lamb with risotto and spinach (best spinach ever) as well as the seafood grill/sampler with mashed potatoes and creamed corn with bacon (a fat man's dream come true🤣), plus a dozen oysters on the half shell, and a bottle of wine (half off on Sundays!), and literally left feeling like family!! Danny was the most incredible waitress with tons of experience and great recommendations, and she made sure our entire experience was flawless from start to finish!! The. Perfect. Dining. Experience.
Will be back as often as possible. 100 out of 10.
Very $$. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Everything was delicious. Steak was perfect, French onion soup, huge calamari amount. Warm bread w/ seasoned butter, asparagus was nice. Did not have the Martinis we requested, however the server recommended Tropical drinks that were nice. Only issue:My house salad was beyond wilty with too much sauce to cover it up. Took it home and ended up throwing it away.
