  My girlfriend and I got take out this night. Looking forward to the skyline we always enjoy. Tonight we went to the takeout window, and were more than disappointed. We both ordered the combo of the 5 way plus a coney. To our disappointment, we received only one coney… said coney didn’t even have a hotdog. Our 5-ways were also pretty light on chili, and were only look warm. I love skyline, but probably not getting take out any time soon from downtown.

  The new Skyline Chili Restaurant at Fountain Square is an experience that everyone should have, from the Cincinnati chili lovers to city newcomers. For the first time in many years, I had to request a menu because this location has some stellar exclusive menu items, such as the loaded chili potato skins, Skyline chili pizza, and much more. They were able to optimize this location by separating the dining area and carry out area, which helps to speed up the process. Other reviews were correct in noting that the speed of service while dining in was lacking; however, I’m going to note that the new servers and staff deserve some grace. Not only is this location new, but I also noticed that they had started to use tablets for ordering in lieu of classic pen/paper. Aside from the food, I was able to experience the Skyline Chili Museum, which showcased the history of Skyline and Cincinnati chili.

  Do not, I repeat DO NOT go here for takeout. I went in at noon, order two chilitos with spaghetti and a Diet Coke. I waited an HOUR for my food. I check with the guy working the counter about my order because other customers were also waiting a long time and checking on their orders. For the other customers, he offered them complementary drinks because they didn’t order one. I ordered a drink already so when I walked up to check on my food, he offered me a refund. I asked if I would still get my food if I got a refund and he said yes. He got a manager and gave me a refund. I proceeded to stand there for another 20 minutes before asking again how much longer it would take because I had a meeting soon. He went to check and they told him I can’t get a refund and food. I reminded him he told me I would still get my food if they gave me a refund and I’ve been waiting over an hour. He was shocked to realize it had been that long. He went back to his manager to see if they would make the food for me. Again, it was two chilitos. That’s it. He came back saying they still said no and there was nothing he could do. I’ve worked food and I knew there really was nothing he could do. But I was in shock. I didn’t even know what to do. I wasted over an hour waiting for food I never even received. The management here is awful. I have to give a shoutout to the guy at the counter (I believe his name was Camryn) because he did everything he could to make the customers’ experiences better on a bad day and management made it very hard on him. I am very disappointed because I work downtown and this was my FIRST TIME visiting this location. Again, I was not the only one who was wasting their entire lunch break waiting for food. Skyline is supposed to be FAST.

  This beautiful new location is perfect for visitors, right in a perfect spot to celebrate all that is Cincy. I am sure it is going to be great, but it is clearly still going through its early growing pains. The first thing we noticed was that every table was dirty. Half the tables were occupied, and the other half were unbussed and covered in plates, napkins, etc. I asked the front desk where to sit given that there were no clean tables. She told me I could probably find a clean one toward the back. The wait to order, and then to get food, was about four times as long as a typical Skyline… which still isn’t that long. Maybe 30 min total from seating to food? So not the end of the world. Our server, Tim, was brand new to serving new but AWESOME about working super hard on our behalf, hustling to every table and checking back in with the steam table to check in our food, etc… he worked so hard and was so friendly and apologetic about the wait. I would come back and do it all again just to have Tim serve again; he was the embodiment of hard-working and friendly service. So… glad to have this here, hoping they get the operational stuff worked out in short order so the many visitors to Cincy can enjoy Skyline with the speed and environment that us locals have enjoyed for decades.

  I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience deserves recognition for all the wrong reasons because the service was so poor. We love Skyline and we’ve been loyal customers for years. That’s what made this visit so disappointing. Our party consisted of seven people (4 adults and 3 children). When we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. There were only about seven tables being served, so we expected a fairly normal dining experience. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before our server took our food and drink order. It also took about 10 minutes just to receive the complimentary crackers. The biggest issue, however, was that our drinks didn’t arrive until after our food was served. Having to eat without drinks, especially with three young children at the table, was frustrating and simply unacceptable. The food service was also disorganized. Two different people each ordered two coneys, but instead of plating them separately, all four coneys were placed on one plate. We had to sort out whose food belonged to whom instead of just enjoying our meal. We understand that every restaurant can have an off day, but considering there were only about seven tables being served, the level of service we received was surprising. Skyline has been a staple in this city for generations, and the quality of service we’ve experienced over the years is part of why we keep coming back. That’s exactly why this visit stood out so much. The level of service we received simply wasn’t what we’ve come to expect from Skyline, and honestly, customers should be able to expect better given the reputation the restaurant has built in this community. We hope management takes this feedback seriously because we’d like our next visit to reflect the Skyline experience we’ve always known.
