About

Bar
Standing high above the city on the 10th floor of the Parisian on Vine building (previously City Club) , at 309 Vine Street; resurrected from the history that has stood here before our time, Shires' Rooftop is inspired by the first amusement resort in this part of the country, Shires’ Garden. Though the original Shires’ Gardens burned to the ground, “in a most picturesque fire,” the legacy that was left behind is everlasting and an integral part of the Queen City’s history. The creation of the Matinee Performance, the regal guests Shires’ hosted, an unsolved murder and other noteworthy events that took place at the original Shires’ Gardens, are an inspiration to our program that we look forward to sharing with you.

Great view and good breeze to keep cool outside on an 80 degree day.

We went for restaurant week and it was a great deal. The beef wellington bites were great, my husband loved the ribs and said they were cooked perfectly. I had the salmon Oscar. I took a star off for food because my husband's soup wasn't very warm and the vegetables could use some more seasoning. But we had a great time in a homey atmosphere.

Oof. This place is definitely a destination not for the food or service, but just the view. We came here for restaurant week and unfortunately won't be returning. We were originally sat at a table, but no one came to check on us after quite a while so we moved to the bar hoping for better service. This didn't pan out. Our first two appetizer courses were as expected, but our mains were unfortunately very disappointing. I ordered the 14oz strip steak medium rare, but it came out such a deep purple rare/raw it was hard to cut. My partner convinced me to send it back, something I am mortified doing. I did and they brought back a new steak, and it too was undercooked to the point of being difficult to eat. I did not return this one as I had deep embarrassment doing so. It was raining outside, so we had wanted to stay for a dessert beverage and told our bartender so. Unfortunately he never checked back in again for 15 to 20 minutes, while we sat with empty drinks. Disappointing to say the least. For 2 people during restaurant week, our meal and two beverages each was $218. We weren't compensated or even talked to in any way for the undercooked steak. Not expected, but disappointing for a restaurant like this. The price isn't disappointing these days, but the experience absolutely was. Given the plethora of dining options now present in Cincinnati, this place simply doesn't live up to much of anything and you'd be better served (literally) getting dinner just about anywhere else.

I dined at Shires Rooftop during Restaurant Week, where the menu was advertised as a 3-course meal for $56. I started with the “mini lobster rolls.” Since the name is plural, I expected more than one, but was served a single roll. I understand Restaurant Week portions are often smaller, but the wording felt misleading. My second course, the rooftop salad, was underwhelming. It was very basic and sparse on ingredients—especially the feta. Honestly, it’s something I could have easily made better at home. The biggest issue was the NY Strip steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it arrived charred on the outside and cooked to medium well. After flagging down the server, I waited about 20 minutes for a replacement. The second steak came out on the opposite extreme—so undercooked it was essentially blue, with a cold center. Even then, it was surprisingly tough and difficult to cut. At that point, I gave up and just ate the asparagus since we had already been waiting so long. Eventually, the server noticed I hadn’t eaten the steak and said it would be comped. However, what followed was another long delay—over 30 minutes waiting for checks. When the server returned, she said she couldn’t figure out how to comp the item due to the Restaurant Week system and, oddly, wouldn’t give anyone else at the table their checks until mine was resolved. After another 20 minutes, my friends finally received their checks, while mine was still being worked on. At this point, we had been there for over two hours and had plans afterward, so I asked for my check so we could leave. When it finally arrived, nothing had been comped. No manager ever came by to address the issue. Overall, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. Between the poorly executed food and extremely slow, disorganized service, it simply wasn’t worth it. I won’t be returning.

I had booked an igloo so on a rainy night I thought this would be a cool experience, but they were already taken down. But that’s ok, our wait staff was delightful and the atmosphere really nice. Unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment. The spinach dip felt more Applebees than 5 star, the $120 feast for 2 was odd. The salad literally was 5 bites of iceberg lettuce with breadcrumbs, no dressing was ever found or tasted. The steaks were perfect but the salmon and shrimp were way over cooked and the chicken - I swear it’s bioengineered. The sauces did not match the meats. The crème brule was ice cold and when they said it was Cinnamon Toast Crunch I did not know that meant a small pile of the actual cereal placed on top. Not included in the taste or recipe at all just some cereal pieces? For a $200 meal, this was far, far below mediocre. A drink on the rooftop for fireworks would be delightful but I would sure skip the food and the price! 😢
