I’ve been on a malatang phase and this is one of the better ones I’ve had. You build your own bowl and it actually feels like the flavors come through, not everything blending into one spicy mess.
The broth is rich but still balanced. It has depth without feeling greasy, and you can actually taste what you picked instead of it getting lost.
Ingredients feel fresh and there’s a good variety. Nothing looks tired or sitting there all day.
Also their chili oil is really good, which makes a big difference. It brings everything together without overpowering it.
It’s a bit chaotic grabbing everything but that’s part of it. Not a place to sit for long, just build your bowl, eat, and go. But it’s consistently solid and I keep coming back.

Ok selection but I don’t really love how the tables are organized. It’s easy for people to take up a huge section (a whole row) since the tables are pretty small.

Zero flexibility, terrible customer service.
Went here planning to take our malatang to a nearby park since it was a nice evening. When they asked “for here or to go,” we said to go. While our food was being cooked, the weather turned. It got colder and started drizzling, so eating outside was no longer an option. The restaurant was half-empty, so we sat down at an open table to eat.
A staff member came over pretty aggressively and told us we had to leave, saying something like “I asked you for here or to go, and you said to go,” as if we were stupid or trying to pull something. We explained that the weather had changed and asked if we could please just stay. They refused and basically forced us out mid-meal.
To make it worse, the food was so hot that the plastic lid of my container had actually started to deform from the heat. It was hard to even get it back on properly. So now we’re being pushed out the door with a barely-sealed container of scalding soup, in the rain.
This is a super casual spot, not a place with table service or anything that would justify this kind of rigidity. There were plenty of open tables, our food was already made and paid for, and plans change. Being treated like that over something so minor is not the kind of experience that makes anyone want to come back.
Really disappointing. Been a long time customer, but this was definitely a turnoff.

I ordered a To-Go order and tried to eat inside the restaurant because I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish all of my food and didn’t want to have to go through the process of packing it up after. However, when I tried to eat my food at a table, a staff member came by and said I could not eat take out in the restaurant. The restaurant wasn’t busy and I had paid the mandatory gratuity for dine in so I was confused why I wasn’t allowed to eat my takeaway in the restaurant. They just said it was policy and that they either would need to transfer my food to a dine in bowl (that would have to be transferred back into the take out container again once I was full) or I’d have to leave. This was such a weird hill for a restaurant to die on and a stupid way of chasing off potential repeat customers. This experience just left a bad taste in my mouth.
