This is the most fun you can have at a sushi restaurant. The staff go above and beyond to make the experience epic. The best location - hands down.

Terrible experience and treated as second class customer in favour of corporate clients.
Having booked well in advance, we arrived to an evening where they were having a corporate event to promote their business. There were a lot of 'invited guests' models and photographers. The venue was too small to cater for the large crowd, as a paying guest I received second class service, I asked for a glass of water three times, it never arrived, yet the invited crowd received everything on demand. I eventually told staff to forget about the water, which they willingly did without a word of regret or apology. Spent the two hours being pushed, shoved and jostled by the "performing crowd" and event photographers.
When I complained to staff, they veered between nothing to do with them / only doing their job through to trying to explain it was an evening for the company to photograph and do promotional activities. I complained that if the event was to be a stagecraft event, then paying customers such as I should not have been admitted. As if to further demonstrate my second class customer experience, even as I was complaining to the staff they turned away from me to take a question from their corporate client.
Overall the business cared more about recording their business and image than actually giving paying customers what they had paid for. Overall a terrible experience with dismissive staff. I would not recommend it.
After dining at Sushi by Bou, Sushi will never be the same for me again.
Chef David set a new standard for me in terms of flavor, texture, variety, freshness and creativity. Until now, I never realized that the leanness and fattiness of particular species of fish each offer a unique experience. And every variety of Sushi Chef David created offered flavor profiles that revealed themselves as each moment passed by. Standouts were the several varieties of Toro (fatty tuna), and the torch-seared Wagyu topped with Sea Urchin. Yum!
And just so you know, the "Sake to Me" cocktail was so fruity delicious, I ordered a second.
We plan to return!
Everytime I come to NY I go to one of the Sushi by Bou restaurants my first night. Omakase, 17 course, bougie upgrade if I feel like really treating myself. The service is on point, very friendly and easy to talk to. And the sushi--the best grade sushi I've ever had.
I had such a fun experience at Sushi by Bou.
The atmosphere is what immediately makes this place stand out. There's a really cool contrast between the traditional Japanese dining experience and the vintage New York vibe. With neon lights, retro music, tattoo-inspired details, and an East Village feel, it's stylish, playful, and unlike any sushi restaurant I've been to.
The intimate setup, with only a few guests seated around the sushi counter, makes the experience feel personal while still being relaxed and fun.
The service was excellent throughout the meal. The chefs and staff were welcoming, attentive, and made the experience even more enjoyable.
The cocktails were also excellent, and every piece of sushi was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. My favorite was the one with the black cod—it was absolutely delicious.
Overall, Sushi by Bou offers a unique take on the omakase experience by combining outstanding sushi with a fun, energetic atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend it and can't wait to come back.
