*I noticed they only respond to positive reviews. Whereas, negative reviews get ignored.
I had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately, they missed the mark in many areas. I booked reservations days in advanced, as my family and I wanted to try a good steakhouse. Online, it looked high-end, and was categorized as, "fine dining," which was exactly the experience we were looking for.
When we arrived, we were taken back by the very loud music. We were with our 10yr old daughter and we wanted to give her a fine dining experience. They apparently had live singers, but it wasn't even music that was relaxing, like jazz. It was very upbeat, hip-hop music. We felt like we had walked into a club. I was immediately turned off and wanted to walk out before we were even seated, but we didn't want to have to find another restaurant and risk having to wait for a table, so we reluctantly just sat down. I asked the hostess if the music was going on all night, and she said they would be there until 10pm, which basically would last for the duration of our dining experience.
We tried to just pretend to have a good time, but deep inside, both my husband & I were not happy. How can a restaurant called themselves a "fine dining" restaurant when there was nothing "fine" about it. It got worse, as we waited a solid 15 minutes before we were ever acknowledged by a waiter, which is unacceptable, especially for a place that's supposed to be "fine dining". My daughter was thirsty and wanted water, and since we had no server, I asked the hostess as she seated someone else, if she can get my daughter some water since she was thirsty. She brought the water and poured it into my daughter's glass, but didn't bother to ask if anyone else at the table wanted water. So she filled her glass and walked away. Water should be automatic and immediate.
I was already disappointed with all the loud, rowdy music, and the 15 minute wait to even be acknowledged by a server, although we were passed numerous times by multiple servers. My daughter was hungry, as were we, and we had no choice but to wait. We finally got a server assigned to take our order. The waiter offered us bread for the table, but failed disclose that there would be a charge for it. Of all the bread that was provided, only 4 pieces were edible, as they gave us about 4 very hard slices of bread; (the one that you would normally use for bruschetta). After we ordered, it took quite a bit of time before we received our food, which is okay as you don't want to rush "good food". However, when we finally received our food, we were hoping that the food would at least make up for the rest of the negative experiences, but, sadly it didn't. The steak was tasteless. My daughter even asked for salt! So we asked for salt & they provided very course balls of salt, so my daughter did the best she could with it. We also ordered macaroni and cheese, and unfortunately, it was so dry. It even had almost a spicy taste to it, as if they went heavy on the black pepper. It wasn't good at all. Not even my daughter ate the macaroni and cheese. We also ordered the organic chicken, and again, just bland tasting. The only thing that was "decent", was the mashed potatoes. That was basically it.
Nothing we ordered justified the high price tag. Not to mention the loud club-like music and the long wait for service. On the way to Mastros, we had passed another steak house that looked very eloquent, and appeared to have the exact vibe we were looking for. They had 50% more reviews than Mastros and all standing ovation about the food & service. We even thought about going in, but we had our heart set on Mastros, so we proceeded towards Mastros. After everything, my husband and I couldn't stop talking about how we should've just walked into the other restaurant. It looked so much nicer, more upscale and more professional. Next time, we will definitely try that one.
Sadly, we will never return to, nor recommend anyone to Mastros.
