I was lucky enough to try Magnolia Bakery’s classic banana pudding during their pop-up at Café Ciel in London, and it was genuinely a life-changing dessert experience. I had tried banana puddings before, but after this, they all suddenly felt like pale, timid imitations of a real thing. The pudding was cloud-like, creamy and almost melting, with a deep vanilla softness that wrapped around the fresh banana. The wafers had absorbed just enough moisture to become tender and cake-like, turning the whole cup into something between a trifle, an ice cream and the best childhood dessert you never actually had. The banana flavour was vivid and natural, not artificial or sugary in that cheap way so many banana desserts can be.
New Yorkers should be genuinely happy that they have Magnolia Bakery as a local institution. For me, trying the banana pudding in London only made me want to visit the bakery in person even more. One day I would love to go to New York and have it properly, straight from the source.

Visited Magnolia Bakery in the West Village while in Manhattan, and this spot absolutely lived up to the hype. Magnolia Bakery is famous for its Banana Pudding, so that was the main thing we came to try, and it was definitely worth it. We ordered the classic Banana Pudding along with the Carrot Cake Pudding, and both were incredible.
The Banana Pudding was super creamy, light, and full of fresh banana flavor. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture, and you can immediately understand why it’s one of New York’s most iconic desserts. The Carrot Cake Pudding was also amazing, combining the flavors of carrot cake with a rich creamy pudding texture. The hints of cinnamon and cream cheese flavor made it unique and really delicious.
The bakery itself is pretty small and cozy, with a classic old-school New York bakery feel. There isn’t really seating inside, so after grabbing our desserts we walked over to the park across the street, sat down, and enjoyed everything there. Honestly, that made the experience even better. Sitting outside in the West Village with Magnolia Bakery pudding felt like the perfect New York dessert experience. Definitely a must-visit spot when in Manhattan.
Trecked over from Brooklyn and got a banana "pudding" and cookie bar. Unimpressed. Any Southern Grandma/aunt/mom could out do the pudding on a bad day. The cookie bar was tasty but stale. This place is all hype.

I’m a big fan of Magnolia Bakery and have purchased from multiple locations, which is why this experience was so disappointing.
I arrived to this location on 5/1/2026 approximately at 10:40pm. There was a rush 8 customers before me but still saw several banana puddings still available. I purchased a medium and immediately noticed it was almost entirely whipped cream and Nilla wafers, there was no actual pudding or banana.
I went back inside to let the cashier know, and instead of offering help, I was met with a sarcastic response saying the pudding was “there, surrounding the cup,” despite me showing them that there was no actual pudding present.
Since nothing was offered to resolve the issue, I purchased a second medium pudding hoping the first was just a mistake. Unfortunately, the second one was exactly the same, again, just whipped cream and wafers.
I’ve attached a photo for reference. You can clearly see there is no pudding present, and the wafers are still crunchy instead of soft, which confirms they were never properly layered with pudding.
To make matters worse, I brought a group of 8 people and everyone made a purchase, so this was not a small visit. Overall, this felt like a complete lack of quality control and customer service.
Really disappointing experience. I would not recommend this location if you’re expecting the standard Magnolia Bakery quality or basic customer care.
