20% gratuity already included for 2 people? How are you guys scamming customers?
The server had already added a 20% tip on the payment machine. When we said it wasn't mentioned anywhere that a 20% gratuity was included, we also told her we don't mind tipping if she could just show us where it was written. Her response was, "No, it's not mentioned, but that's the rule."
So you're telling me it's not mentioned anywhere, but you still expect customers to pay 20% automatically? We usually tip 15–20% anyway, and most restaurants with this kind of policy clearly mention it on the menu or let customers know beforehand. These guys did neither.
She also claimed every restaurant here does this, which is completely untrue. We've lived 15 minutes from this area for the past 4 years, and no restaurant has ever had this rule for just two people. It honestly felt like she thought we were tourists.
We asked to speak to the manager, but she said it was just the staff there. Then she gave us attitude, saying, "You know what, don't pay the tip at all," and removed it from the machine. Our bill was $30 before taxes, around $38 after taxes, and we paid $42 in total, which was roughly a 15% tip. The problem was the lack of transparency.
Pay your staff a proper wage rather than expecting your customers to pay it for you!
The food wasn't bad, but this incident completely ruined our evening.
