In my opinion, Golden Steer is the epitome of an intimate experience with food, hospitality and elegant ambience. To start, the shrimp cocktail was excellent, perfectly cooked. We also had the Filet Mignon Tartare - the meat was fresh, delicate and seasoned nicely with a variety of spices. The 50 oz Porterhouse Steak was perfect for the two of us, cooked to a Medium-Rare perfection, seasoned well and exceptionally tender. A great selection of sides is offered to pair with your dinner - we had the Madeira mushrooms and whipped potatoes, wonderful.
Golden Steer's hospitality and service certainly makes it stand out from all the others. At the start you are greeted with a warm welcome and vibrant smiles from the team in the front - the servers are professional, attentive, and well versed on the menu. I had the pleasure to have Larry as my Waiter twice in a row - he's awesome, funny, charismatic and makes you feel at home. The restaurant has a balanced wine list offering a variety of body, style and regions. If you don't have a reservation, take your chance at a walk-in and perhaps you'll get lucky with a table in the lounge area. I'll be back to try the Lobster tail soon, you can count on it.
Welcome to New York City Golden Steer, it's great to have you!

My girlfriend really wanted to try this place for her birthday and the only reservation that was available was after 10PM. So I called and was told that I can come in and grab a table at the lounge area. I even called the same day and hour prior to arriving and asked to make sure there was lounge seating available.
Once I arrived I was told that the tables were first come first serve and no tables were available. I told the ladies at the front that I had called earlier and was told there would be tables available but nobody gave me us the time of day. We sat at the bar for about an hour only to see tables begin given away to other parties that came after us. We left and went to another restaurant. Won't be coming back.

We went to the restaurant last night with moderate expectations but that quickly changed and WOW were we surprised. Our "just another steakhouse" metality was instantly changed when we started to taste Chef Brendon Scott's food. One dish after another was a delight to our taste buds. The lobster cocktail was packed with chunks of juicy lobster, the bone marrow presentation (everyone stopped eating as they carried this dish through the restaurant) and taste were outstanding. Next came the steak tartare which was bursting with complex flavors. As amazing as these dishes were, they took a back seat to the massive slab of perfectly cooked and seasoned prime rib. Wash all this down with a decadent, tableside presentation of cherries jubilee and you've entered food heaven.
Just another NY steakhouse... i think not! Golden Steer belongs on the top of your "must try" list.

Pros: INCREDIBLE interior and so beautiful inside. Truthfully maybe top 1% of service in all of NYC. The bartenders, waitstaff, hostess….everyone was so attentive and kind.
Cons: The price is obvious egregious but you go in knowing that. The main con is the clientele. The amount of completely drunk/wasted finance guys and screaming people was shocking. It wasn’t calming or enjoyable at all because of them. At the bar, the people next to me were screaming at each other for 30 mins. Then when they left it was replaced by a huge group of suited guys, two of whom were SHOUTING how they were too drunk and kept vomitting in the bathroom.
The staff and food and interior is incredible but I won’t be going back with how bad the ambience is with the screaming, rude customers.

I made a reservation back in December for my besties 50th birthday, May 27th.
I had to update the amount of people & add 1 person, & was not able to adjust it on Open Table in February, as it was booked solid.
I called, & left vm. The woman who responded & called me back quite fast was a pleasure, said she’d update the # of people for me & if I had any issue, call them back.
This weekend, I went to add it to my calendar because we made plans immediately afterward.
I noticed the time was changed, by 3 hours later!!!! We had an early time, knowing we have plans later in the evening.
I called & spoke to Marcus. He absolutely refused to honour the original time, blamed me & said I was the one who changed it on Open Table myself, & there was nothing he could do.
I explained how I’d called because there was no way for me to update myself in Open Table but he insisted it was my fault, & refused to honour help. He said perhaps call a week prior to see if any cancelation.
Im really surprised. I know they don’t need a good review from me.
However, if they had my Open Table profile they’d know how much I review, refer, spend, & promote.
I would hope having a bad review based on the customer service alone would mean something to anyone who has the reputation they have, & considering my first experience was so kind, vs, the second being a disaster, & condescending.
Ive kept the time they’ve given me.
We shall see if this happens.
Super disappointed in the treatment, & lack of customer service, & professionalism.
