  Clean rest stop with plenty of seating. Keep in mind Chick-fil-A is closed on sundays and the Panera bread is always got something broken (in today’s case it was the swipe reader on the kiosk terminal nearest the cashier. Seriously, never go to the Panera bread.

  Easy on and off of the NYS Thruway, this service area is one of the newer style locations with several fast food chains like Starbucks, Chi-fil-a, Shake Shak, Panera Bread, and others. There are lots of chairs and tables to sit at, and we didn’t have a problem parking or long lines on a weekday afternoon. The rest rooms are large and fairly clean. There was a short wait at the fuel pumps because there are 3 islands with 6 pumps at each, but half of them are on the passenger side, and you can’t turn around to face the other way. Also, my receipt didn’t print out so I had to go inside.

  The New Baltimore rest stop is honestly one of the better places to stop along the New York State Thruway, and we’ve stopped here enough times over the years to really appreciate it. If you’re going to take a break from a long drive, this is a good one to choose. First, the bathrooms are really nice. They were clean, modern, spacious, and well maintained when we were there. That may not sound like the most exciting thing to write about in a review, but when you’re spending hours on the highway, a clean and comfortable bathroom suddenly becomes a very important amenity! The whole rest area feels much nicer and more pleasant than the typical highway rest stop. There is also a Starbucks, which is obviously a huge plus if you need some caffeine for the rest of the drive. One very important piece of advice: ORDER AHEAD ON THE STARBUCKS APP! The Starbucks here can get extremely busy and the line can be surprisingly long. If you know you’re approaching New Baltimore, put your order in before you arrive. By the time you park, use the bathroom, and walk over, there’s a good chance your coffee will be waiting for you. Much better than spending half your rest stop standing in a Starbucks line. One of my favorite things about New Baltimore has always been the farmers market. It does seem to be smaller than it used to be, which is a little disappointing because it was such a distinctive part of this particular rest stop. That being said, it is definitely still worth checking out. They had wonderful fresh fruit when we stopped, and it’s such a nice change from the usual highway options of packaged snacks and fast food. There’s something particularly satisfying about grabbing really good fresh fruit for the car instead of another bag of chips or candy bar. I also love that the farmers market gives the stop a little bit of a local New York character. So many highway rest areas feel completely interchangeable, but having local produce and a farmers market makes New Baltimore feel like an actual stop in New York rather than just another anonymous building along the highway. Overall, this is a very solid place to plan your break if you’re traveling this stretch of the Thruway. Clean and comfortable bathrooms, Starbucks for coffee, fresh fruit from the farmers market, and a pleasant place to get out of the car and recharge for a few minutes. Just remember my biggest tip: if you want Starbucks, order ahead! You’ll thank yourself when you walk past the long line, pick up your drink, grab some fresh fruit, and get right back on the road.

  Place looks nice, but the bathrooma are always disgusting looking and half of the equipment doesn't work.
