  Going for dinner to celebrate my bday. My wife planned a weekend bday for us. The Rose tavern looked nice. The host sat us down and welcomed us with a Bday card. Shortly after the Chef sent us a dish that consisted of toasted bread and minced in house grown veggies to pair the bread with. A nice gesture. Sadly the veggies were bitter tasting. Our server spoke very low and timid fashion. Mind you the place was full. We sat near the open kitchen. We ordered the pork belly appetizer which was crispy and tender yet the asian inspired sauce that smothered the plate was overly sweet and tangy which made the cabbage in the dish difficult to eat. For the main courses my wife ordered the bucatini pasta and I went for the 12 hour duck confit. The food arrived plates look amazing. My wife loved her pasta. The minute I tasted the duck, it was extremely salty and to top it off it was smothered in the same sweet tangy overpowering sauce that the pork belly had (appetizer dish) this made it exponentially worse. I brought it up to the attention of our server. He apologized and suggested other dishes. I then decided to order the prime ribeye “medium”. After a 25 minute wait the steak arrived somewhat dry and unpleasantly salty. Each bite became saltier. I was disappointed a second time by the same place in the same evening. My body language showed. My wife was torn at the fact that her bday surprise for me was nowhere near a pleasant dinner experience. One salty dish is a mistake. Back to back high sodium dishes is an unacceptable pattern.

  My girlfriend and I had an incredible dinner here over labor day weekend. We were seated at a great table with a lake view. The rolls, salad, shells & cheese, and entrees were delicious. Wonderful hospitality as well. We would definitely be back!

  We went for our anniversary dinner and brought my parents for their 66th anniversary, and sadly, our experience was not what we were hoping for. I got the Bucatini pasta and it was an extremely small portion with very little flavor for $32, they apologized and took it off our bill, so I shared my wife’s salmon which was good, but that was my dinner. Service was average as they seemed very under staffed. $360 later we got a “happy anniversary” and nothing more for what we thought would be a first class experience on a special our night. We felt like we paid for the location, food was average at best. We’re locals, it would be hard for us to recommend or to go back for the price and experience.
