I love the idea of this but the execution not as much. This is a place that under one roof has got tons (I haven't counted how many) of dining options, in the form of a counter, where you come up and order your food and then, can either sit at the counter or take your food and go sit at a communal table. In theory, it's great because you can come here with a small/big group of people and everyone can get different things And then everyone just sits down and eats together. Or you can come here by yourself and not have an idea of what you want to get but then decide once you see what the options are. In practice, though, the seating is undesirable, the service is not excellent, it is not kid-friendly, it doesn't have enough both food and drink options at one vendor (no combo of food and alcohol, and just one bar I've noted on the bottom level). It only opens at 11am. So that leaves something to be desired. A 10am start time would be nice. Also, the different dining options are super close to each other and there is not enough room in between to walk by comfortably. The communal tables are a good, and necessary, option. My biggest gripe is that it is not kid-friendly. The space/aisles in between do not accommodate a regular-sized stroller well, there are no high chairs available, and the seating/chairs is not appropriate for toddlers because it either has no back (the benches at the communal table) or no back and too high (the chairs). I've been here a few times so far and plan on coming back to try the different dining options. I've had the mahi mahi tacos at a Mexican spot and the hand rolls at Mori Mori, which were delicious. And the froze at the bar.

Very poor hygiene. At any point while I was there there were no less than 20 people waiting at every bathroom location . The bathrooms are all mixed gender, single bathrooms, and with hundreds of people going in and out of each, I leave to your imagination the condition the bathrooms were in. I only needed to wash my hands to eat, I ran around to three different bathroom locations, all single room, mixed gender, couldn’t find a sink to wash my hands, I was determined not to get sick from eating with unwashed hands so I finally begged someone to let me cut in the line just to wash my hands. Had to prop the door open with my foot while washing, I didn’t dare touch anything with how filthy the bathroom was. I love Time Out Market. My first experience of it was in Montreal - an excellent, flawless setup over there. Bathroom quality is imperative for guest experience. Although the food at TOM Dumbo was good and the place was vibrant with people, the bathroom situation killed it for me.

Time Out Market has such a great atmosphere. It’s right near DUMBO, with an amazing view of the Brooklyn Bridge, so it’s definitely a great place to stop by if you’re exploring this area. While I was there, I had the chance to try a Thai restaurant called VELA, and I had such a wonderful experience. The staff were very helpful from the beginning. They explained that I didn’t actually need to order directly at the counter—I could simply scan the QR code, place my order, pay through my phone, and they would bring the food straight to my table. Unfortunately, almost all the tables were taken, so I ended up sitting at the counter instead. Since I didn’t have Apple Pay set up, I decided to order directly with the cashier. I’m actually glad I did, because I got to chat with the staff, and they were incredibly friendly and welcoming. After placing and paying for my food order, I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to order drinks. So I went back and ordered a Coke and two bottles of water. These weren’t the free tap water—they were bottled water that I fully expected to pay for. To my surprise, the cashier only charged me for the Coke and gave me both bottles of water without charging me at all. It was such a small gesture, but genuinely very kind and memorable. While sitting at the counter, I also had the chance to talk with another staff member from the kitchen. I think he may have been on his break because he came and sat nearby to have his meal. We ended up chatting about quite a few things, and once again, I felt genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. Now, about the food—it was excellent! The flavors were absolutely delicious, and the portions were incredibly generous. One dish was so large that two people could share it and still struggle to finish everything! I definitely recommend VELA. If you’re visiting DUMBO or Time Out Market, this is one place you really shouldn’t miss. Great Thai food, generous portions, and genuinely warm and friendly service. And for anyone wondering—yes, there are definitely restrooms inside Time Out Market! 😄 If I have the opportunity to come back to this area again, I would absolutely eat here again. Highly recommended! 🇹🇭❤️

Service is a myth they tell you about on the website. In practice, you are the waiter, the busser, and the complaints department, and you’re tipping yourself in aggravation. Flag someone down with an issue and you’ll get the specific blank stare of an employee who has zero authority and even less interest in your problem. The only thing this place has going for it is the view, which it is aggressively using to distract you from the fact that you just paid $19 for something you could make better at home in fifteen minutes. It’s not a market. It’s not curated. It’s a rotating cast of underwhelming stalls wearing a trench coat labeled “destination dining,” and the only people falling for it are tourists who haven’t figured out yet that DUMBO has actual restaurants two blocks away. Skip it. Save your money, save your dignity, and go eat somewhere that employs a chef instead of a marketing team.

Here's a one-star review that channels the frustration: --- **★☆☆☆☆ — Overpriced food court dressed up as a "destination"** Time Out Market DUMBO is proof that a great location and a slick marketing budget can't save you from a fundamentally broken concept. Let's be clear about what this place actually is: a food court. Not a curated culinary experience, not a "market" in any meaningful sense — a food court, with the waterfront views doing all the heavy lifting. The pricing is the first insult. You're paying full sit-down-restaurant prices — sometimes more — for food served in plastic baskets and cardboard boats. There's no server, no real plates, no ambiance beyond a converted warehouse with communal tables, yet somehow a few tacos and a soda run you close to $40. You're not paying for the food. You're paying for the address. Then there's the food itself, which does not remotely justify the markup. Portions are small, dishes arrive lukewarm, and half of what's advertised as "chef-driven" tastes like it was assembled by someone counting the minutes until their shift ends. I've had better versions of nearly every dish here from an actual hole-in-the-wall for a third of the price. And service — what service? You order at a counter, you fetch your own food when a buzzer goes off (if it goes off at all), you bus your own table, and if something's wrong with your order, good luck finding anyone who has the authority or the interest to fix it. For what you're paying, you'd expect at minimum someone checking in. Instead you get the labor model of a mall food court with the price tag of a tasting menu. The whole thing only "works" because it's new, it's Instagrammable, and it's steps from the water. Strip away the view and this concept collapses instantly. Skip it — walk five minutes in any direction and you'll find better food, better prices, and someone who actually cares whether you enjoyed your meal.
