My experience was deeply disappointing from start to finish.
I ordered the Portobello mushroom burger, battered broccoli, French fries, and lemon cake, expecting fresh, thoughtfully prepared plant-based food. Unfortunately, every savory item fell well below expectations.
The Portobello mushroom burger was excessively fried, leaving the mushroom dry and lacking its natural, earthy flavor. Instead of complementing the burger, the bun felt like a standard processed bun rather than a wholesome, quality option.
The battered broccoli suffered from the same issue. It was over-fried to the point that the broccoli's texture and flavor were completely lost. The batter was greasy and under-seasoned, resulting in a dish with virtually no flavor.
The French fries were equally disappointing. They arrived soggy, heavily saturated with oil, and lacked the crisp exterior and fluffy interior that define well-executed fries. They tasted more like inexpensive takeout fries than something prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
The lemon cake was just as disappointing. It was dry, stale-tasting, and lacked the moist, fresh texture you would expect from a quality dessert. It was simply not enjoyable.
When I asked what oil was used for frying, I was told soybean oil. For a restaurant that appears to market itself as offering healthier, plant-based fare, that was surprising and inconsistent with the quality I was expecting.
I was also disappointed to learn that some of the condiments used, including Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce, are not vegan. For customers seeking a genuinely vegan dining experience, this is an important detail that should be disclosed.
Overall, this meal reflected poor execution, excessive use of oil, and a lack of attention to flavor and ingredient quality. Based on this experience, I have no intention of returning.
I literally threw the food away…. Disgusting
Rating: 0/10.
The service here is excellent! The gentleman who helped us was incredibly prompt, welcoming, and helpful. The restaurant itself was cozy nice throwback r&b playing.
Unfortunately, the food was a bit of a mixed bag. The highlights were definitely the soy protein fry fish, which was pretty tasty and had a great texture. The plantains were just okay. However, the main sides missed the mark—the rice and peas were dried out and lacked flavor, and the chana was undercooked, bland, and yet somehow still spicy (the flavors just didn't seem to come together).
I love supporting local vegan spots and the customer service really shined, but the kitchen needs a bit more consistency with the seasoning and execution of the staple dishes.
