Yesterday I stopped in the C Town at 2115 Pitkin Ave to get some groceries. I was trying to look at my phone to check my account to see how much I had left before I picked up the groceries. My phone wouldn’t function while in the store. I told who might be the manager that reception in the store was bad and he said phones are working. Then I went by the door of the store and my phone worked fine near the exit door. I proceeded to shop, finished and went to the register. It was two girls and both were on the phone. I asked which one of you want to take me because there was no line. Both stayed on there phone ignoring me. I just chose one of them and the frown on her face could scare away some birds. I put my groceries on the counter and told her not to put the pork rinds in until I see the balance. Again she ignored me and snatched the bag and scanned it. I said I asked you not to scan it and she just kept frowning and stared at me. I told her she is lucky it didn’t go over the amount I had because she would have had to deduct it. I thought maybe their was a language barrier. So the guy who I believe is the manager walked by and asked why is your cashier so rude or is it that she doesn’t understand English because then I could understand what was happening here. He said because all black people steal. That all the black people in my neighborhood steals and no one works. Then I saw the prejudice and was shocked because he was as dark as me. He said all the stores in the neighborhood are ran by Puerto Ricans and they work hard for their money. I told him not all black people are bad. I worked all of my life from the time I was 14. In high school I worked the summer months and I worked while going to college. I don’t steal. I said I am retired now. He again said you black people, none of you work, you steal Gucci and everything. I laughed at him because I saw where he was trying to take me. Being a woman of God I didn’t allow him to provoke me and he seemed angered more when I laughed at him and left the store because i knew it would be my last time there. I felt you belittled my skin color, majorly disrespected me, and treated me like garbage but wasn’t able to get a rise out of me. I honestly think he was disappointed in that. I am an almost 69 year old disabled woman, 5 feet and 88 lbs. He thought he could intimidate me and bet if I was man his size and so forth, he would never have approached me that way. I went home and posted my experience at C Town on Facebook. Corporate is not answering their phone either. Praying for all the employees in the store while Blessing them.Totally rude, prejudiced against black people but don’t mind taking our money. The nerve of some people. They need to get better employees there because they wouldn’t have a store there if it wasn’t for our black people spending money there. You hate us but you love our money. Trust me that will be changing. We will stop going there!!
