I can't express how little I felt after waiting almost 30 minutes for three meals. I got off work late and just needed to grab something fast.
I ordered a Big Mac Bundle Meal with sweet and sour sauce. Before I could finish my order, the drive-thru attendant stopped to take another customer's order. He came back and asked, "What sauce would you like?" I replied, "Sweet and sour." He then asked, "Anything else?" I ordered a Filet-O-Fish Meal (#8) with no tartar sauce and add mayo. Once again, he stopped and took another customer's order.
By that point, I honestly started feeling like I was being treated differently. As a Black woman, it made me question whether I was being overlooked because of my race while the other customers were being helped before me. I can't say for certain that was the reason, but that's exactly how the experience made me feel. No customer should leave wondering if they were treated differently because of the color of their skin.
When he came back, he repeated, "A Filet-O-Fish with no tartar, add mayo. Anything else?" I said, "Yes, please add lettuce, tomato, and slivered onions." He paused for what felt like forever, then asked me to repeat myself. At that point, I wanted to leave, but I was stuck behind the three cars he had helped before me, even though I was already in line when they pulled up.
I repeated my request, and he charged me for every added topping. After another long pause, he asked, "Is that correct?" I said, "Yes, sir." I also asked to change my drink to sweet tea, but he didn't respond. Then he came back and asked, "What drink?" I had to speak louder and say, "A SWEET TEA!" Then he asked, "What size?" I replied, "The regular size that comes with the meal."
When I finally got to the payment window, the employee stared at me like I had done something wrong. He told me my total was over $30. I paid and drove off. By the time I reached Valley Drive and opened the bag, I realized my fries were missing. At that point, I just said, "Whatever," and ate some of my kids' fries, but they were hard and cold after sitting for so long.
I even laughed to myself because after being charged for all the extra vegetables, I was sure they wouldn't be on my sandwich. Surprisingly, they were—but so was cheese, even though I'm allergic to it.
Food is way too expensive these days to receive poor customer service and inaccurate food preparation. This entire experience left me feeling disappointed, frustrated, and honestly devalued. No customer should leave feeling like their time or they themselves didn't matter.
I will be returning the fries and half of a #8 combo this morning.
This McDonald's has gone from being so bad that we avoided it altogether, to now, being our preferred ocation. I heard they're under new management, but whatever happened was a miracle of God. The staff used to not speak to us, or even look in our direction, the food was never hot or accurate. it alwavs took 1 5+ minutes, etc. Now, they're on top of their game. One employee even told us to "Have a nice day" in a kind and cheerful tone. I was genuinely shocked! Please keep up the hard work. You guys are tremendously better than before. I haven't had cold fries in, like, at least 6 months! Praise God! Thank you, McDonald's! By the way, we really liked that gentleman, Brian, who used to work there a few years ago. He was so friendly and treated us like people. I'l| be back for more fries soon!
