**First Time and Last Time**
I stopped here in the evening after traveling all day because a local recommended the place. I am not from Española, so I was hoping to try what I had heard was some of the best pizza in town. My experience did not come close to that.
I started with the salad bar, which had decent choices. Since this was a to-go order, the staff could not find a lid for the salad bowl, so it had to be wrapped instead. The male server apologized, which I appreciated.
I then bought two slices of pizza. At the time, there was only one pizza available to choose slices from, and it was pepperoni. I understand that I picked from what was available, but the slices were very small and looked more like something from a kids’ menu. I still hoped the taste would be better than the appearance, but it was not.
The pizza was dry, flavorless, and disappointing. It had very little sauce, very little cheese, and barely any pepperoni. The crust was already hardening as it cooled, and it tasted like it had been sitting too long or left in the oven too long. After traveling all day in 90-degree weather, I was hungry, but the pizza was still hard to enjoy.
The total was $18.47 for two small slices and a salad. Based on what I received, it was not worth it. I had planned to buy a whole pizza to take home to my family if the slices were good, but after trying them, I was glad I did not spend more.
I did not take photos of the pizza because I did not go in planning to leave a review. I was hungry after a long, hot day of traveling and ate the slices before deciding this experience was worth speaking about. I am including proof of purchase so this review cannot be dismissed as fake, especially after seeing the owner accuse other negative reviewers of being fake in public responses.
I am also including a picture of the salad I did not eat. The salad bar itself had decent choices, but after the bad experience with the pizza, I did not want to finish the meal and gave the salad to a family member instead.
Before writing this review, I also read some of the owner’s public replies to negative reviews. Some of those replies came across as very unprofessional to me, including profanity, accusations, and personal remarks toward customers instead of a professional response to the complaint. Seeing that made me less confident that a concern like this would be handled respectfully.
This visit did not match the positive reviews, the food pictures, or the claim of having the best pizza in Española. Based on what I received, that claim was not supported at all. I do not normally leave food reviews unless the experience is very good or very bad, but this was bad enough that I felt I should say something.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this place.
