Seems like any Sunday that we go to Albertsons in Clovis, NM that the shelves are full of holes and attitudes are terrible. Today a HUGE part of the bread aisle was empty and had a sign blaming it on “warehouse issues”. After shopping and getting our items we rolled into the self checkout where a rude woman told us “15 items only”. Not hello, no greeting at all, just “15 items only”. To which we replied “ok, we don’t have more than 15”, so she then said “more than 15 backs up the lines”. No, the new card system that has been introduced is causing the lines to back up regardless of going to a checker or using self checkout where. As it ended up, exactly 15 items! But the new card system held us there another 3 or 4 minutes and the self checkout nazi never bothered to offer help. Same thing happened two days ago. So, due to the crappy attitudes of the employees and lack of items on shelves, we will be going elsewhere for a while until hopefully things change at Albertson’s. Been shopping there for over 40 years and this is the worst I’ve ever seen it.

We ordered some chicken and a tall Caucasian man gave it away three times. He did not keep it for us. We always go to the counter order our chicken and shop. He gave the chicken to other people and made my elderly mother wait. I can not believe this. So they treat the elderly bad if that don't have any support. Also two Hispanic women were there and told my mother they were waiting for their called in chicken for about an hour. I am going straight to corporate. She also told the manager but nothing happened.

At the end of April, my mother and I visited an Albertsons in Clovis, New Mexico while we were traveling from Texas. Since Albertsons is no longer common in the part of Texas where I live, I was genuinely excited to shop there again. Overall, the shopping experience itself went well, and we were happy with the items we found. Unfortunately, the interaction we had with one cashier completely changed my perspective of the store. The cashier’s name was Ricki. I specifically remember her name tag because it had crosses on it. My mother and I were checking out a large amount of groceries and splitting the bill between two transactions. I actually wanted to pay for everything myself, but my mother insisted on paying half. When the cashier asked how many tickets we needed, I politely responded, “Two, thank you.” At one point, Ricki informed us that the pack of water had already been rung up on my mother’s transaction. I respectfully asked if she could remove it and place it on mine instead. Her reaction to this simple request immediately felt irritated and bothered, as though my asking was somehow an inconvenience. She called over a manager for an override, which was completed quickly. After my mother finished paying, Ricki continued scanning my items. She then asked how many waters we had purchased. I walked over to verify and told her it was a 24 pack. She followed up by asking whether it was spring water or purified water, and I answered that it was purified water. Underneath her breath, she responded, “Well, since it’s that important, I just thought I’d verify.” At first, I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because everyone can have a difficult day. I stayed quiet and continued being courteous. However, the interaction became more uncomfortable when she then asked if I needed help carrying out my water while I was standing there with an entire cart full of groceries. The tone throughout the interaction felt sarcastic, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. I do not know whether this was simply Ricki having a bad day or something deeper, but as a woman of color interacting with an older white cashier, I would be lying if I said the thought did not cross my mind. I previously worked overseeing transportation operations throughout the state of New Mexico and interacted with countless people from many communities without ever experiencing something that made me feel this uncomfortable. What disappointed me most is that I was respectful and pleasant throughout the entire interaction, and that same energy was not returned. Because of this experience, my family and I chose to drive farther to Walmart for the remainder of our trip rather than return to Albertsons. I truly hope Ricki reads this and remembers the young woman who treated her with grace despite the attitude she received in return. Seeing the crosses on her name tag made the interaction even more disappointing. As one Christian woman to another, I genuinely hope she reflects on how she treats people because compassion, patience, and respect should extend to everyone, regardless of what kind of day we are having. This experience negatively impacted what should have been a pleasant and nostalgic visit back to Albertsons.
