⭐⭐⭐☆☆
I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it wasn’t a good experience.
If you’re advertising menudo, opening at 11:00 a.m. seems a bit late. We arrived before opening and waited about 15 minutes to get in.
The first thing we noticed when we walked inside was the overwhelming smell of Pine-Sol. I appreciate a clean restaurant, but the strong chemical odor was so overpowering that it wasn’t appetizing while trying to eat.
Since we had already waited, we decided to stay. The portions were small for the price. The rice tasted like it had been cooked the day before, and the meat in the green chile also tasted stale. The beans and red salsa were decent, but nothing stood out. We weren’t offered chips and salsa, so I’m not sure if that’s something they normally provide.
Our waitress was very sweet, but she appeared to be new and understandably overwhelmed.
For dessert, we ordered sopapillas. They came out flat, thick, and hard instead of light and fluffy, so we sent them back.
Our meal for two came to about $40, and it simply wasn’t worth the price. I was hoping to find authentic Mexican food, but this tasted more like New Mexican or Tex-Mex cuisine. After trying several places around town, I’m still searching for authentic Mexican food in Alamogordo.
Unfortunately, between the overpowering cleaning product smell, the stale-tasting food, the small portions, and the overall value, I won’t be returning.
