The hamburger is one of the world’s most popular foods, with nearly 50 billion served up annually in the US alone. Although the humble beef patty on a bun is technically not much more than 100 years old, it found its first wide audience at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, which also introduced millions of Americans to new foods ranging from waffle ice cream cones and cotton candy to peanut butter and iced tea. Situated at the food court of the Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus, my partner and I decided on lunch at this establishment as first-timers to this location. Named after its five founders, all members of the Murrell family, Five Guys is celebrating their 40 years. It features white tiling checkered with five vertical rows of red tiles, each row representing one of the five sons of the chain's founder. With their open kitchen, it enables patrons to see their burgers being grilled as well as the fries being prepared to order. The menu remains notoriously simple: burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and fries, with limited free toppings and a focus on high-quality, fresh ingredients. We decided on their Veggie sandwich with cheese, Little Hamburger, large Fries, and a large Root Beer drink. The burger and sandwich looked terrible, but do not let that fool you. The flavor and texture were very delicious, juicy, and a treat for one’s mouth. If one has never been to this place, be prepared to be blown away by the portion sizes; they serve everything in paper bags. The service was quick and the staff friendly. Overall it was decent, but a bit disappointing that they didn’t have the peanuts available this time since that’s kind of part of the Five Guys experience for me.

I love Five Guys . I used to go to the original one in Alexandria VA back in the day and it was literally 5 dudes cooking on one huge grill and you would eat peanuts out of a wooden barrel and just throw the shells on the ground inside this tiny burger joint. These days they still make great burgers but not quite as good as they did in the original location. This particular Five Guys I found there to be a little language barrier and it unintentionally lead to my order getting skewed. But it was just as consistent in quality as any other Five Guys. The chocolate peanut butter shake is the best. The staff was cordial and pleasant.

Great burgers. Fries good but way too salty. Seating area could be cleaner

I had Five Guys for the first time in a long time because I was craving a burger. Overall it was decent, but a bit disappointing that they didn’t have the peanuts available this time since that’s kind of part of the Five Guys experience for me. The burger itself was good though, and I like how their kitchen is open so you can see everything being made. I also totally forgot their burgers come with two patties, which I actually like because one patty is never enough for me. Not a bad visit overall, but the missing peanuts was a bit of a letdown.
