Great for Cape May vacation groceries! Also the ACME app worked well for easy pick-up so we placed the order and picked the food up after the beach!

I’ve had several disappointing experiences with the younger staff at the Acme on Bayshore Road in Cape May, but my experience yesterday was especially frustrating.
The young man working the checkout didn’t have a name tag on and was extremely rude to another employee right in front of customers. He told her directly that she had “no brain cells” and that there was “nothing going on upstairs.” She told him that he was being rude, and he responded that it was true. It was very clear from the interaction that she was uncomfortable and that his comments genuinely made her feel bad. This wasn’t joking or playful banter—it was outright disrespectful and humiliating toward a coworker, and customers should not have to stand there and witness that kind of behavior.
Then, when my receipt printed, instead of handing it to me, he placed it on the counter so carelessly that it fell. He had dropped it—not me—and then acted as though picking it up was an inconvenience. He was unfriendly and completely unprofessional throughout the interaction.
This also isn’t the first issue I’ve had with customer service at this location.
On a previous visit, I had a large grocery order that included a case of beer. At other Acme locations I’ve visited, there are designated checkout lanes where customers can purchase alcohol along with their groceries, for example in Cape May Court House. They asked where I was from ! I’m a local for 7 months out of the year ! At this location, I was told I had to take my entire order and go stand in the long line at another register simply because I had alcohol.
When I questioned this, a woman who appeared to be a supervisor or shift leader came over. She did not have a name tag and did not introduce herself. She said, “What do we have a problem child here?” That was an incredibly disrespectful way to address a customer who was simply asking a question. I’m in my mid-30s, and I don’t appreciate being spoken to like I’m a child or being made to feel as though I’m causing a problem for asking about a store policy.
I was then told that I was wrong and that this was not how they handled alcohol purchases. Yet the next time I came into the store, there were beer and wine signs posted at every checkout lane.
So which is it?
The biggest issue for me is the lack of professionalism, consistency, and basic customer service. Employees should know the store’s policies and be trained properly, and customers should be treated respectfully. Employees should also be expected to treat one another respectfully, especially when customers are standing right there.
I’ve continued shopping at this location because it’s convenient, but the customer service lately has been extremely disappointing. Management really needs to address the attitude and training issues at this store. ShopRite has been a much better experience especially with deli and the selection.

This is the most poorly laid out supermarket I have ever shopped in in my 60 yrs. The quality of the fresh foods is subpar and poorly stocked
