  Had a wonderful family dinner at El Gordo in Jersey City and absolutely loved the experience. The food had such an authentic traditional Peruvian flavor that reminded us why Peruvian cuisine is so special. We started with the Shrimp Ceviche, which was incredibly fresh, citrusy, and perfectly balanced. The Chaufa de Pollo was flavorful, comforting, and packed with delicious smoky wok flavor. The fresh whole fish was another standout — beautifully cooked, tender, and seasoned just right. Every dish felt homemade and authentic. The portions were generous, the atmosphere was warm and family-friendly, and the service made us feel very welcome. You can really taste the care and tradition in every bite. If you’re looking for genuine Peruvian food in Jersey City, El Gordo is definitely worth visiting. Looking forward to coming back and trying even more dishes with the family!

  This place needs recognition. I leave happy every single time after eating a steak dish with rice. The green sauce is phenomenal.

  IF I CAN GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD! WORST RESTAURANT! The ceviche barely brings any fish and service was terrible we didn’t even get napkins and to top it off they charged 20% gratitude tip and said that’s how the system is set. The food was maybe like a 4/10 for the price and service your better off going somewhere else.

  El Gordo is elite Peruvian food. When I first tried El Gordo in 2019 it planted a seed about wanting to visit and explore Peru, that dream came true last year. Now I can compare and confidently say, El Gordo is authentic and delicious Peruvian food. We are lucky to have you! I moved away from the area but was glad the quality remains top when I visited earlier this week.
