Nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of Bloomfield Avenue lies the Cloverleaf Tavern, a well-established staple in Caldwell, New Jersey. It is currently the oldest business in town. George Dorchak Jr. founded the Cloverleaf Tavern in 1933. George was 23 years old when he borrowed money from his uncle to purchase the first liquor license in Caldwell after prohibition. The building at the time consisted of two stores: a vegetable stand and a bakery. The bakery was called The Bake Shop with a shamrock as it’s logo. This is where George got the idea for the name of his Tavern.
In 1940, George made an election bet that won him a ride down Bloomfield Ave in a wheelbarrow. That’s right! The gentleman pushing the wheelbarrow (who remains unidentified today) lost the bet. Watch this amazing video below of George being pushed from the “flats” of Caldwell to Central Avenue.
Deb is the most amazing waitress that ever waitressed for me. She was attentive and knew her beer choices for me. Oh yeah, the food was good, too.

If you want a place that gets the formula right, go to Cloverleaf. The Irish pub vibe in the bar is great and the beer list is huge, it’s always fresh and never "funky" or flat like some other places with big selections.
The food is consistently solid; maybe not the "best ever" burger or wings, but everything I've tried is well above average and never a disappointment. Even though it’s a big spot with plenty of tables, they really pay attention to the details, they even have mouthwash in the restrooms for god sake. Plus, you’ve got the terrace, easy municipal parking, and occasional live music. It’s just a great time no matter who you’re with.

The food came relatively fast. I had a burger since there were good reviews. However no follow up from the waitress due to she was overwhelmed with other tables..Their system went down, and they couldn't print the bill. The wait for a total was atleast 20 minutes. The waitress came and said yoyr bill is about....so do you have cash bevause we can't take cards. Luck for me I did..The manager nowhere to be found no apologies from him however the waitress did in fact apologize constantly. Poor management here. He should've walked around and explained the situation rather be non existent. The food was good but the service needs improvement.
