I have barely shopped at this supermarket in years because of what I believe was profiling. About six years ago, as soon as I walked in, a man wearing a store uniform appeared to follow me around the store. After repeatedly staying close to me, he asked what I was looking for. I told him what I needed, and he directed me to the item.
When I was ready to pay, he apologized for his behavior, which made me feel he knew it was inappropriate. I did not report it to management because I was in a rush. In addition, my bank card information was used for unauthorized purchases twice after shopping there, although I cannot confirm how it happened, and the bank did not approve the transactions.
During the past few years, I have only returned occasionally when I could not find items elsewhere or was in a hurry despite my negative experience.
However, two days ago it happened again. While I was shopping, I felt like I was being followed by someone who appeared to be an employee. At the self-checkout line, the same person stood very close behind me despite having nothing in his hands, and I had to ask him to move back.
Afterward, he picked up an item from a display and paid, which made the situation feel suspicious to me.
These experiences made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I believe customers should be treated with respect and not feel singled out while shopping.
