Went to the Hannaford store in Franklin. I was looking for Brewer’s yeast to help my daughter who had just had a baby. A very nice lady helped me look for it, and when they determined that they didn’t have any, a team of them went to work trying to find the nearest place that had it. And when they found it, they gave me explicit directions on how to get there. I was blown away. What kind, thoughtful, considerate people!

There was a time when a trip to the local market was an exercise in culinary inspiration. Unfortunately, navigating the aisles of the Franklin Hannaford has pivoted from a routine chore into a masterclass in consumer disappointment. For a pillar of the local community, the current state of operations suggests a store struggling with the absolute basics of retail execution. The Illusion of Abundance To walk through the center store is to witness a landscape of chronological neglect. The primary issue here is not merely a sporadic shortage of niche ingredients; it is a systematic failure of basic inventory management. Entire sections of the shelves sit completely barren, leaving shoppers staring at empty wire racks and the mocking facades of cardboard dividers. Whether it is a standard weeknight staple, a specific cut of meat, or basic pantry essentials, the "out of stock" reality is so consistent it feels almost deliberate. One does not shop here with a recipe list; one shops with a sense of profound compromise, forcing you to build meals around whatever random items managed to survive the supply chain breakdown. The Produce Conundrum If the dry goods aisles are an exercise in scarcity, the produce department is an exercise in swift culinary decline. The presentation frequently lacks the vibrant freshness one expects from a premier New England grocer. Instead, customers are routinely met with: Wilted Leafy Greens: Lacking the crisp turgor pressure that denotes recent harvest. Neglected Displays: Berries that demand immediate, microscopic inspection for mold before they ever hit your cart. Accelerated Spoilage: Avocados and stone fruits that somehow manage to jump from entirely rock-hard to completely bruised and un-utilizable overnight. For those who prioritize clean, high-quality whole foods to fuel a demanding physical regimen, this department requires far too much guesswork and vetting just to walk away with passable ingredients. The Verdict: While the local staff are generally pleasant and doing the best they can under apparent operational constraints, the store's logistical failures cannot be ignored. Until management remedies the supply chain deficits and raises the standard of their perishable inventory, the Franklin location remains a frustratingly unreliable option for serious grocery shopping. It is remarkable to observe the stock levels between the Concord, NH Hannaford, Rochester, Alton, and other locations compared to Franklin. I have not encountered empty shelves at Market Basket nore have I had any issues with the Produce. Probably because workers are always on the floor stocking and inspecting the food. Time to wake up Hannaford Management!!
