This says something because this is my FIRST EVER online complaint. 😠
Let me paint a quick picture. My boyfriend and I are not regular Subway customers. While driving to Colorado for vacation, we stopped at a Subway because we were hungry. We noticed a fantastic deal we couldn’t pass up: 6-inch subs for $3.99. The sub choices were limited, but who could pass up that deal? I got a BLT, and my boyfriend got a ham and salami sub (important: which isn’t something he would usually order).
Fast forward to our drive home from vacation. We decided to stop at this Subway location in Kearney, Nebraska. Her name is LAYLA and was working on 7/16/26 around 1:00 PM. When I asked for her name she rudly potined to her name tag with a passive aggressive smile on her face. I do know she was working with a middle aged women and another younger women who worked the register and has glasses.
My boyfriend was tired from driving, so he asked me to order the same deal as last time: the ham and salami $3.99 6-inch sub. However, he wanted two 6-inch subs because one wasn’t enough for him the last time. I ordered my 6-inch BLT and ordered his as a footlong, assuming I would still receive the $3.99 deal twice because TWO 6-INCHES IS THE SAME THING AS A FOOTLONG!
The employee already had an attitude when the bread he wanted wasn’t available. She rudely said, “Uh, we don’t have that.” I simply replied, “Oh, okay. I’ll take Italian Herbs & Cheese instead.”
When I got to the register, a different employee (who was very kind) rang up his sandwich at the regular footlong price instead of applying the two $3.99 deals. I politely asked if she could change it because we intentionally came to Subway for that promotion. She happily corrected the price.
That’s when the employee I’m complaining about stepped in. She went out of her way to tell the cashier to change it back to the regular footlong price. I explained that it didn’t seem fair, and she replied, “Well, you ordered it as a footlong, so that’s how we’re going to charge you.”
I then asked, “So you’re saying if I had ordered two 6-inch ham and salami subs instead, I would have gotten the deal?” She answered, “Yes,” and continued arguing that I was just trying to get the deal.
Well… yes. I was trying to get THE DEAL. That was the entire reason we came to Subway. If we had known we’d be charged the regular footlong price simply because I said the word “footlong” instead of “two 6 inches,” my boyfriend would have ordered a completely different sandwich as mentioned before the choices for this deal are limited and this isn't his go to type of sandwich.
I even asked if they could simply package it as two 6-inch sandwiches if that was the issue, and she refused.
Honestly, the $3 isn’t the end of the world. What upset me was the way this employee handled the situation. The cashier had already corrected the price, and this employee deliberately stepped in to reverse it. She was rude, argumentative, and dismissive throughout the interaction.
To make matters worse, the middle aced coworker who witnessed everything told me I should file a complaint and said that if she had been the one at the register, she would have honored the deal without hesitation.
This experience left a very negative impression. It wasn’t about the money…it was about the poor customer service and the unnecessary attitude over a simple misunderstanding.
