⭐ 1/5 Stars | One of the Worst McDonald's Experiences I've Ever Had
I have worked in the restaurant industry, including as an Assistant Manager for McDonald's in Kansas City, and I can confidently say this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had, from beginning to end.
After getting off work, all I wanted was to pick up my food, go home, and enjoy my meal. Apparently, that was asking too much.
First, the order-taking experience was an absolute disaster. The employee taking my order repeatedly entered it incorrectly, even after I explained what I wanted a second and third time. To make matters worse, he kept trying to rush me forward to pay before I had even finished ordering!
When I noticed the second burger was entered incorrectly, I immediately pointed it out. He assured me it was fine and that he would correct it. I even checked the receipt attached to my order before leaving because I wanted to make sure everything was right.
Surprise! I got home, and the burgers were STILL made incorrectly.
At this point, I was frustrated. I called the restaurant and spoke with a woman who answered the phone without identifying herself or stating her position. I actually had to ask whether she was the manager on duty.
I calmly explained what happened and told her I would bring my receipt back later in the week to have the incorrectly prepared food replaced. I had just gotten home from work, and I was not about to waste more time and transportation going back that same day because of their mistake.
She immediately insisted that it was company policy that incorrectly prepared food could ONLY be remade on the same day.
Having previously worked as an Assistant Manager for McDonald's, I questioned that statement based on my own experience with the company. Her response? Apparently, this location is now operated by a different owner, and that somehow justified everything she was telling me.
When I professionally asked for her name, she became defensive and flat-out refused to identify herself, despite confirming that she was the manager on duty.
Then her attitude became even worse. She told me she was not going to comply with what I was saying and proceeded to suggest that I didn't know what I was talking about and was making things up.
Are we seriously arguing with a paying customer over a cheeseburger that YOUR restaurant prepared incorrectly?
Let's be clear. I wasn't asking for free food, special treatment, or anything unreasonable. I simply wanted the food I paid for to be prepared correctly, and when it wasn't, I expected a reasonable solution.
As someone who has worked in McDonald's management, I understand that mistakes happen. Employees are human. But there is a difference between making an honest mistake and responding to a legitimate customer complaint with defensiveness, disrespect, and an unwillingness to help.
What concerns me most is the lack of professionalism from someone representing management. If this is how the manager on duty handles a simple order correction, I seriously question the level of customer service and leadership being demonstrated at this location.
I would absolutely welcome a conversation with the General Manager or franchise owner. I would also be happy to discuss my previous McDonald's management experience, because I know firsthand the standards of service, accountability, and professionalism that should be expected.
From the employee repeatedly entering my order incorrectly, to being rushed through the ordering process, to receiving incorrectly prepared food, and finally to being treated disrespectfully by management over the phone, this entire experience was unacceptable.
The problem wasn't just the burgers. It was the complete lack of accountability from start to finish.
Customers work hard for their money. The absolute minimum they should expect is to receive what they paid for and be treated with respect when something goes wrong.
One star, and only because zero stars isn't an option.
