  I recommend to avoid self check out completely! I made the mistake of placing my sale paper in the bags with my purchases prior to paying. All the sudden the machine would not accept payment and alerted staff. They immediately reviewed the video of me scanning my groceries and said the machine did not recognize the sale paper and thought it was an store item. But apparently that was not sufficient and they had to do an item check in my bags to ensure the count matched the receipt. Who needs this hassle. If the cashier has to examine my purchase it defeats the assumed goal of self check out all together. Frankly I don't like being treated like a thief.
