It’s terribly sad when a food experience from your childhood becomes soiled from cost reduction techniques that result in a horrid decline in the quality of food. Truth be told, I don’t tend to come to my childhood state much, finding my true home up to the Northeast. But one of the few things I did enjoy, or rather used to enjoy, when coming back to use state, is getting to enjoy Pei Wei. But when I came back this time, this wasn’t the Pei Wei I remember. Far from it.
Yesterday night, I unfortunately ordered a meal for two that came at a whopping $43 dollars. The tea I came to love was now a horribly distilled and watered down and bitter so called sweet tea, that my mom eventually just poured out the car window into the grass nearby. The rice was chewy, taught a sign of it not being cooked fully. But worst of all, was how non-fresh, lab-like (or rather the meat you’d expect out of a frozen meal or to my suspicions one of those cheap bulk frozen meat bags you can get at walmart), and salty the meal was (which I assume came him the preservatives or simply trying to keep “fresh” already pre-cooked food from hours if not days ago).
The egg roles were okay, but given the lack of chicken in “chicken egg rolls,” I’d assume there’d be at least of couple pieces of chicken in them. Not two or three small pieces of chicken.
But apparently, gone are the days of seeing a sizzling fire you could see as you could watch your food be prepared right before your very eyes.
In the end, neither me nor my mom finished our meals. We stopped eating, left more than half in our containers, chucked them in the trash can, and went to refill our water bottles to wash the taste of questionably salty meat.

I went in there for the very first time. My daughter recommended this place for lunch. I am glad that she did. I enjoyed the whole experience so much.
