After the experience my family and I had on Friday afternoon, I honestly would have preferred for the reservation to have been canceled altogether rather than have my graduation lunch unfold the way it did. What should have been a celebratory and fun occasion became frustrating and deeply disappointing because of the service and overall quality we received.
From the moment we arrived it was apparent the restaurant was severely understaffed. There was only one bartender and maybe two other servers handling the entire restaurant. As a result, everything took forever. Drinks, food, and even basic service were unreasonably delayed. I understand staffing issues happen, but customers should not bear the consequences to this extent, especially during what was supposed to be an important family celebration.
To make matters worse, the food itself was incredibly disappointing. Several dishes came out sloppy, greasy, and in one instance, undercooked (if not completely uncooked). The quality was nowhere near what I have experienced at the Wilmington locations over the past 20+ years, which is what made this experience even more frustrating. I have often spoken highly of K-38, but after Friday, I honestly could not recommend the Raleigh location to anyone. If someone asked me whether they should try it, I would tell them to wait until they go to Wilmington instead.
Having spent years working in the service industry myself, I rarely take the time to complain because I understand how unpredictable restaurant work can be. But this was my law school graduation lunch, a huge milestone event for me and my family, and this establishment completely blew it. I hope this feedback is taken seriously.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was beyond disappointing. We booked a party of 12 over a month in advance for a law school graduation celebration, and the restaurant was completely unprepared. For a Friday lunch at 12:00 PM, they were severely understaffed and the service was unbelievably slow. It took over 20 minutes just to get drinks to the table, and things only got worse from there.
The food was terrible. The tacos were literally falling apart before anyone could even pick them up, and one person in our group was served raw food. For such an important celebration, this was embarrassing and frustrating. We expected at least decent service and edible food, especially after planning ahead so far in advance.
Overall, the experience ruined what should have been a special occasion. Poor service, poor management, and poor food quality. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially for large parties or special events.

I did a take out order online. The food was very good, however it was ready 20 minutes later than promised. When I got home, I found that one entree was missing from the bag, even though paid for it. I had to drive back to the restaurant and wait for the hostess. The missing entree was sitting in the kitchen, now lukewarm. When I finally got home, the rest of the meal was lukewarm as well. A bit frustrating.

Tried K38 Baja Grill at Seaboard Station and it felt like a mini beach escape 🌊
I ordered the original enchilada with rancheros sauce and it was so good — super flavorful and comforting without being too heavy. Paired it with a skinny strawberry margarita which was refreshing and just the right amount of sweet.
The decor really sets the vibe here. Waves painted on the walls, surf photos everywhere… you genuinely feel like you’ve stepped into a laid-back beach spot, not the middle of the city. It’s such a peaceful atmosphere.
Shoutout to our server, Laurel, who was amazing. She was attentive, friendly, and made us feel really welcome the whole time.
Already looking forward to coming back!

I really wanted to love K38 because the decor is beautiful and the vibe inside is great. Our server was also incredibly warm and friendly. Unfortunately, the food and drinks didn't live up to the setting.
The chips and salsa were quite bland—the salsa felt more like a supermarket deli brand than house-made. I got Mexican street corn and it was the worse I’ve ever had. It was a barely cooked ear of corn with a gob of mayo and tajin on it. We were disappointed to find they were out of fish for the tacos by dinner time on a Saturday. I opted for the steak tacos, but they lacked any real seasoning or flavor. Additionally, my friends ordered corn tortillas but were served flour instead, and they found their burrito and tacos equally underwhelming. Between the high drink prices and the lack of authentic flavor, it just didn't hit the spot. If you’re looking for quality Mexican food, Mezcalito remains the better choice in every category.
