It was a very welcoming place. Customer service was outstanding. I ordered suya, jollof rice, eru, and fufu. Eru has its own different fufu that I believe should be added to the menu to elevate the dish. As a Cameroonian, if I had to rate the eru out of 10, I would give it 6.5 because the eru recipe was modified; the cow skin wasn't in there. The beef suya was the best; it was delicious. The jollof was good too, but when I mixed it with the suya, it made the jollof rice even better. But I still had a wonderful experience. The lady even gave me a free drink. The only reason why I'm not giving this restaurant a 5-star was because of the Eru. I feel like if it was made the authentic way, I definitely would have given this place a 5-star 🌟. I would definitely eat here again.😋
I took a friend to Elle Et Moi Cuisine to celebrate her birthday, and what I expected to be a simple dinner turned into a dining experience that stayed with me long after we left. This was my first time trying African cuisine, so I honestly walked in with no expectations. I didn’t know what the dishes would taste like, how the flavors would come together, or much about the food traditions behind what I was ordering. In a way, I think that made the experience even more special because I was able to approach everything with an open mind.
I ordered the Oxtail Combo with fried plantains and okra vegetables mixed with thin slices of stewed white onions. The oxtail was incredibly tender and practically fell off the bone. It was juicy, rich, deeply seasoned, savory, and mildly spicy enough to bring warmth without overpowering the other flavors. The okra surprised me just as much. It was silky and hearty, lightly seasoned, and unexpectedly comforting. The soft stewed onions added another layer of flavor and paired beautifully with the richness of the oxtail. The fried plantains were sweet and caramelized, soft in the center with slightly crisp edges, and they gave the meal the perfect contrast between sweet and savory.
My friend ordered the Beef Stew Combo with Bitekuteku and fufu, and of course I had to try some of hers too. The beef was tender and slow-cooked with a rich sauce that had a slight hint of tomato along with other delicious seasonings. The Bitekuteku had an earthy, leafy, savory flavor that was well seasoned and comforting. My friend would nip off a small piece of the fufu and dip it into the beef stew sauce. The fufu was soft, smooth, stretchy, and filling, and seeing how it was paired with the stew added another layer to the experience.
More importantly, the hospitality made the experience even more memorable. The owners surprised us with a complimentary sample of Puff-Puff, an African fried bread, which was such a thoughtful way for me to experience another traditional food. They also brought my friend a generous slice of carrot cake for her birthday. Then the owners and family gathered together and sang “Happy Birthday” to her. That small gesture meant so much. They didn’t have to do any of it, but they made a genuine effort to make sure my friend felt celebrated. For a moment, it didn’t feel as though we were simply customers sitting inside a restaurant. It felt like we had been welcomed into someone’s family celebration.
Elle Et Moi Cuisine itself is small, cozy, lively, and has that family-style feeling throughout. Everyone was immensely hospitable. I was especially impressed by the young daughter working at the register. She carried herself with remarkable professionalism and attentiveness. Watching her interact with customers made me think about the example of hard work, responsibility, and hospitality she must see from her parents and family every day.
The restaurant is small and located next to a gas station, so parking and seating can be limited. If you have a large group, I would personally recommend ordering takeout or considering their catering service. Even when I return, I may choose takeout for convenience, but I would absolutely return for the food and the warmth of the people behind it.
Elle Et Moi Cuisine made my friend’s birthday special, made my first experience with African food memorable, and gave both of us a story we will probably talk about for a long time. It wasn’t simply a delicious meal. It was a small introduction to another culture through its flavors, traditions, and hospitality. And now I have an entire menu left to explore...
