Haven't been in a while but the food was still hearty and flavorful. Our server was especially positive, refilling waters and bringing out food quickly. As always, the fresh table side guacamole was excellent. I'm not a fan of churros but the rest of the table enjoyed the , finishing off the ice cream and chocolate sauce that came with it. A ritual for us after the annual Renaissance Festival, definitely!

Ate at the bar as I normally do when I travel for work. Sad vibes in there. Neither of the two TVs were working. Food was good, but costs maybe 20-30% more than the same dish at every other Mexican spot. Planned on getting a drink too, but skipped it because of the TVs being down. Bartender looked like he was having a rough night, so I’ll give him a pass. A lot of staff just scrolling on their phones.

If you are looking for “authentic” Mexican Food, look no further than Don Pedro Mexican Restaurant! I grew up in California where you have a ton of options for Mexican Food, but the most authentic of places were always the gems in some suite in a small plaza. It is important to remember that places like “On the Border” are Americanized and lack the prestige that comes with a well-schooled restaurant staff that carries the blessing of family heritage and recipes. Don Pedro is one of those restaurants. When you first enter you are hit with a combination of a Cantina atmosphere and beautifully crafted furniture directly from Mexico. The hostess is friendly with a large smile, sense of humor, and above all appreciates that she is a part of this establishment. I was seated quickly and just as I would expect in California, a young man showed up and brought me Chips and Salsa. The important part here is that it is “ACTUALLY” Salsa that is made from scratch. If you live in the Midwest and are from the West Coast, you will have noticed this weird substance they call Salsa. After years of disappointment with “so called” Salsa, I finally found some that reminded me of home and the tastes that I grew up with. You will not be disappointed with the quality and taste of the small bowl that is placed in front of you! My waiter, a gentleman named Gama, was quite knowledgeable of not only the history of the restaurant and the owners, but how the business is operated, and the quality and care that goes into the preparation of each meal. At Don Pedro, everything from your tortillas, taco shells, and Salsa are all made from scratch and trust me, that is taken very seriously! One important thing to note here is that they are more than willing to accommodate what you are searching for regarding a perfect meal. In my case, this was Mexican Rice (I don’t like Refried Beans, so a double rice), Two Shredded Beef Tacos (Ground Beef Available), and Shredded Chicken Enchiladas. The taste and quality of the meat on both was exceptional and it was evident that great care was taken to shred with precision. Basically, it wasn’t just “Get the job done” on food prep. They made sure that the presented product was excellent. In Conclusion, if you are tired of Mexican Food that is NOT Mexican Food at all, this is a place you want to take the time to visit. There is competition in the plaza, but it seems more geared toward a different type of cuisine. FYI, if you are staying at The Hampton or Garden Inn, this restaurant is in the plaza right across the street and close to the closed down Burger King. Check this place out. You won’t be disappointed!!
