I went to the Food Lion on Piney Green to pick up some fresh produce, but when I got home I found that the tomatoes I had just purchased were moldy. This isn't the first time something like this has happened to me at this particular location, and just a few days earlier I purchased a few red pears , only to find that they were rotten inside. I don't know what is causing to leave rotten/moldy produce on the shelf, but this seems to be a problem that has started in the past few months, and I have other encountered this problem at other Food Lion locations. Come on Food Lion, this is a serious health risk, and you need to do better.

I genuinely don’t understand how this location’s To-Go service is allowed to operate this poorly.
Day 1: I arrive in the designated pickup spot, call the number as instructed, and the employee who answers is laughing throughout the call, not letting me speak, and once I do say the name for the order, she starts laughing harder. Not exactly the level of professionalism you’d expect when handling customer orders.
Then I get home and realize a large portion of my order is missing. Not one item. Not two items. 15 out of 23 of my items. The solution? I was told I could either make another trip that same day or come back the next day to pick up the items that should have been included in the first place. For the inconvenience, I was offered a $5 gift card.
Day 2: My husband returns to pick up the missing items. He parks in the designated To-Go spot and calls the number. He’s told he has to come inside to get the order himself. At that point, what exactly is the purpose of having pickup spots?
It gets even better. After following the instructions he was given, another employee tells him he should have stayed in his car and that he was taking up a pickup spot by coming inside. Interesting.
And, of course, the promised $5 gift card was never provided.
What should have been a simple grocery pickup turned into multiple trips, conflicting instructions, missing items, wasted gas, wasted time, and broken promises. The most concerning part is that nobody seemed to care. There was no urgency to fix the mistake, no accountability, and no effort to make things right.
If you’re considering using the To-Go service at this location, be prepared to double-check your order and possibly make multiple trips to get what you already paid for. The service provided was a complete joke.

There are many great things I could write about this store, but for me one amazing thing stands out above most other stores in the region. Not only do they have a deli... but... the have a real sushi counter!!
In the Orient there is a name 宋 which means tree or more precisely pine tree. It is pronounced Song. My friend of that name has built quite a name for himself in culinary circles here in Coastal North Carolina. He is a master artist at making REAL SUSHI.
He doesn't have a fancy restaurant. But then, he doesn't need one. He started with precious little, and built his reputation slowly with quality and purpose. Folks come from miles around to the grocery store where his counter is located... and with good reason. He is a good conversationalist. He is a wealth of information. And he truly is a master when it comes to properly preparing sushi. He is indeed a true artist. In a hurry he has prepared trays ready to go. Custom to order, no problem. Portions... perfect.
I visit his counter at the Piney Green Food Lion near White Oak High School pretty regularly. I've found that a lot of my friends do also. We're hooked!
Yep, you read correctly. His Sushi counter is in a Food Lion! Now that's customer service, and I might add the best sushi around. Hissho Sushi at Food Lion at 861 Piney Green Road is definitely worth checking out.
