  It is absolutely ridiculous that after about 8:00 or 9:00 only the self-checkouts are open, yet they have two or three people standing around talking while customers have to do their jobs. I don't work for food lion and should have the choice of regular or self checkout.

  On top of being a very outdated and frankly grimy store, the indifferent (read:rude) staff are quick to admonish you for not having a credit card or cash when their debit system is down, and make no attempt to tell you when you arrive that the main method of payment in the united states is not being accepted. Thanks for making me waste my lunch break not getting lunch.

  At approximately 5:45–6:00 p.m. today, my family and I went to Food Lion to do our grocery shopping. After selecting all of our items, we had a completely full cart with well over 100 items. When it was time to check out, a manager told me that I had to use the self-checkout lane. I asked if there was a regular cashier available, and he told me that there was not one open at that time and that I would have to use self-checkout. The issue was not simply being asked to use self-checkout. The problem was the way the situation was handled. The manager was extremely rude and made no effort whatsoever to assist me, despite the size of my order. I was left feeling as though I was inconveniencing the store by being a customer. At that point, I decided to leave the entire cart of groceries and take my business somewhere else. Managers and employees should understand that their role is to assist customers and provide a positive shopping experience—not make customers feel like they are responsible for doing the store’s job. After this experience, I can say with confidence that this will be my last visit to Food Lion. There are plenty of other places where my family and I can spend our money and be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Good luck, Food Lion.

  Eric walked away from what he was doing in the meat department to help me find something in a totally different department.. excellent customer service!
