  I am writing this because a situation I witnessed and intervened in (I’m all about minding my business but there are limits in which will be provided below) around 5:50 PM today, this has been weighing heavily on my heart and soul. While I completely understand that businesses cannot control everything customers do, I believe management and staff can control the safety and atmosphere of their workplace. During my visit, a woman was openly yelling at, cursing at, and physically dragging and squeezing her young daughter over a something spilled on her shoe. When I gently intervened to advocate for the child, this individual became hostile, claiming personal familiarity with the staff ("they know me well up here") and using that supposed connection to dismiss concerns and threaten interference. (In which I helped the little girl and moved on with buying what I needed and got out) Public child abuse and aggressive, erratic behavior should never be tolerated or brushed aside—especially when a regular or "friend" of the establishment uses their relationship with workers to act with impunity. Workplaces have a responsibility to foster a safe environment for everyone, including patrons trying to shop in peace and, most importantly, vulnerable children. I hope management reviews the footage from around 5:51 PM or exactly a few minutes later 7/23/26 to see how this was handled. Customers should feel safe walking into your establishment, and staff should not allow personal acquaintances to bring toxicity, disruption, and abuse into a public space. Back to there being limits, there are distinct legal and social boundaries regarding how someone can treat another person in public, especially when it involves children. While parents and guardians have legal authority regarding how they discipline their children, that authority is not absolute and has strict legal limits. Which the mother whom is friends with the employees did exactly that Dragging, violently yanking, or squeezing a child with enough force to cause pain, bruising, or a risk of physical injury goes beyond lawful parental discipline. Under the law, intentionally inflicting physical injury or creating a substantial risk of injury can constitute misdemeanor or felony child abuse.
