My Alice Spring Chicken was great. The wings and shrooms were okay. The pasta dish was good. Our waitress was attentive and polite. The atmosphere was okay. Slight odor I didnt like.

We have dined her approximately a dozen times over the last few years. Tonight was hands down the worst experience we have ever had, we came for a birthday celebration and left very disappointed. Our waiter Chance was under the influence and appeared to be high as a kite the entire time. He had glazed eyes, shakey hands, slurred speech, and messed up multiple things. We were forgetten about and no server was assigned to our table for almost 30 minites. Our drinks sat so long before being brought to us that they had no ice in it, completely melted. Our salad had brown lettuce and it took over an hour and a half before our entrees were brought to us. It took so long we had our food boxed up to go before we even ate. Drive carefully carefully yThe manager was compassionate and understanding but our waiter put a terrible taste in our mouths.

Greenville doesn’t exactly have an endless supply of great restaurant options, and somehow our dinner plans proved the point. We started at a steakhouse in a strip mall—an arrangement my nephew had been skeptical of from the beginning—and, once we walked in, quickly realized it wasn’t what we were looking for. We politely left and headed to one of Greenville’s better-known restaurants (also in a strip mall), where we were told the wait would be an hour and a half. After sitting in the car hemming and hawing over what to do next, I finally said, “What about Outback?” Third time’s a charm. It really was. I grew up in Greenville, and we used to come to this Outback all the time. Years ago, it was always packed. After this visit, I can say it’s absolutely worth revisiting. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality stood out. Rather than pointing us toward whatever table was available, the host asked what would be comfortable for our group. Our server, Abigail, was wonderful. Having worked in the service industry myself, I could tell she was training from the way other team members were nearby supporting and shadowing her, but she handled our table beautifully. People were attentive without hovering, waters and drinks never sat empty, we were never rushed, and every interaction was warm and genuine. I also have a shellfish allergy, which often means fried food is off the table because so many restaurants use shared fryers. Abigail has a shellfish allergy too, so she immediately understood why that was one of my first questions. She explained that they do not use the same fryer for shellfish and the fried items I wanted to order. For anyone else with a shellfish allergy, that is a huge deal. Instead of feeling restricted or spending part of dinner worrying about cross-contact, I actually had options. Even better, I could eat both the Bloomin’ Onion and the fried mushrooms—which, nutritionally responsible or not, made me very happy. Both were fantastic. The rest of the meal held up just as well. My mom and I had filets that were cooked beautifully, and the sides were great. I’m also painfully picky about dirty vodka martinis, which are surprisingly easy to make badly. These were excellent. My mom managed to bump my first one and spill a little across the table. The staff jumped in to help clean it up, everyone laughed about it, and no one made a fuss. My only real concern was the perfectly good sip of martini now soaking into the table. We were a somewhat boisterous group—my mom and me, my college-age nephew, and his two roommates—and the entire evening was relaxed, easy, and enjoyable. It reminded me why my family loved coming here years ago and, more broadly, what good hospitality feels like. As we were leaving, my mom said, “Everybody was just so happy. They were so nice.” That really summed it up. I don’t eat out nearly as much as I once did, and I rarely—if ever—leave reviews. I felt compelled to write this one. If you’re in Greenville and haven’t been to Outback in a while, it’s worth revisiting. We were thoroughly impressed, and we’ll absolutely be back!
