Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn't help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we're still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.
Me and my family decided to try Whataburger, I will say this was my first and last time at this establishment. The food took a while to come out and when it did my order was wrong. I walked to the counter to let them know I was missing a patty as I ordered a double. The person had to add the mistake on the register screen. I got my receipt back and waited as my family finished their meals. 15 minutes later I walked back up to the counter to check on it. I figured all they had to do is add a patty but no...they made a completely new burger that was wrong. I took the burger and just left without saying anything, but what a mess they have and the poor drive thru line had a 43 minute wait in que...

My sisters and I had a great experience at this location. Service was fast, the food was great, and the manager, Anne was on top of things. The young man, Nikee, that took our order was on top of things too. When there were no customers, he consistently found things to do like grabbing a broom to sweep, cleaning counters, and wiping down tables. He never sat still. The manager, Anne was the same way. She was hustling in the back with the staff helping prepare orders. Kudos to them both, and to Whataburger for having an excellent manager and staff member at the Gastonia location!

Food wasn't bad. Only issue is the kids meal. Be careful with it, my nephew picked his little box up all Happy and the bottom fell out 😭
I wanted to laugh cause he looked so heartbroken but also was upset because you can tell the bottom had no support/barely any glue. He maybe ate a few bites of his meal...but we were to far away when he did pick it up that it wasn't worth going back to get it fixed.
Aside from that, the food we got was good and everything was fresh. Wait wasn't bad especially for a Friday and probably will come back again.

Okay, what is up with all the hype? Honest question. It's like waiting 2 hours in line for
In N Out and you get a mid burger and fries. Never had Whataburger before but everyone said it's a must have. Well...... That is false.
Not a must have. More like if in a pinch it will do type of burger.
I was in North Carolina for the American Legion AAA National World Series and wanted to give it a try. Completely disappointed.
Burger was wrong, one patty when it should have been two, sauce was wrong on the wrong burger, onions when said NO onions, buns literally fell apart. Not a good experience.
The chicken sandwich was decent. But you could tell it had been sitting for awhile.
So not impressed at all. Would not go better again. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the truth is you'll never find a good fast food burger late night.
Worse part was I wanted their apple pie. Ordered 3 three, never got them. Was not going to go back and wait on a long line because the people can't read or place orders properly. Man complete disappointment.

It pains me to leave a negative review. There are a lot of great things about this location, but there are frequent enough issues that I know given long enough it will shut this place down and that’ll break my heart. When I was in the Army stationed in Texas I fell in love with Whataburger. I was extremely excited when one was coming to Gastonia. That being said I’ve been now more than enough times to feel 2 stars is beyond fair. The quality of food during the day is inconsistent to say the least, you never know if it’ll be great, mid, or bad. We went today (8/15/26) and it was great. Unfortunately, calling the quality of food at night inconsistent would be compliment. I have gone there a few times late night and the food just hasn’t been good any of those times.
There was one night I went about 1 month ago and it was a nightmare scenario. It was around midnight and there was a line wrapping around the building, the lobby was full and it seemed like no one was getting their food. Instead of telling people in the drive through about the wait we were asked to pull into parking spots while they took more orders. After 50 minutes of waiting I went in asking for my food which of course was cold. They explained a batch of fries was burned and something with the fryer had to fixed (maybe changing the oil?). I cringe to think that they let all that chaos ensue over some fries. Just tell people fries are the hold up and almost everyone would be happy with a coupon for free fries on their next visit. And they would leave and the back up would vanish. There was also a ton of others in there waiting. After getting my food I said I needed my money back and Juan (the manager) clearly frazzled started to take the food back after I said I wanted my money back which is an insane thing to do when you just had someone sitting outside for an hour and didn’t once send someone out to communicate anything. After getting my refund I walked out and a guy had just gotten out of the drive through line and parked next to me, I basically let him know there was a long back up and he may want to save some time and wait in the lobby. As I was telling him someone walked out with his food. The car on the other side of me had been parked there for 35+ minutes. Still no food. I wanted to leave a review after that night but I felt like although the food was cold, and the customer service was as bad as it could be, it was free so I had that going for me.
I went back after my shift just the other day and there was no line, I get off work around 4am most nights. Juan again was working and after taking my payment he asked me to pull into a parking spot. Instantly my PTSD kicked in from the other time. Of course this time there was absolutely no one to be seen so I was confused about why I’m being moved to a parking spot.
I know in this review I am critical of Juan. He seems like a hard worker, with a good heart, but as the manager I feel like if he would focus all of his energy into how can he improve the experience for his customers things would run significantly smoother. Being asked to pull out of sight is not a pleasant experience. Being asked to wait without being communicated to about why it’s happening is not pleasant. Getting food that’s over cooked and dry is not pleasant. I know the food CAN be cooked well, so just run some quality assurance and set that expectation of excellence for your employees. It’s just as easy to cook the food correctly as it is to do it incorrectly, I learned that when I worked at KFC.
