  We are new to the area and trying new places. Boy did we strike gold today!! Arrived about 1:30 on a Wednesday and there were very few people dining. Likely the end of the lunch rush. Our server made some recommendations and seemed to be a real “ cheerleader” for the restaurant. I settled on the brisket sandwich with potato salad and my wife got the teriyaki salmon and rice. My brisket was perfect. A nice crust over a very juicy cut of meat served on a toasted bun and a side of juice. YUMMY!!!The potato salad was like my granny’s homemade. My wife was served a very generous cut of salmon and the glaze was very flavorful. The music was a nice touch as well. Kudos to whoever chose the soundtrack. Our server was very attentive and answered all our questions and even took the time to chat with my wife about all the dessert selections. Can’t wait to return for the fish and shrimp.

  For all who wish to come here be warned the place is run down, not friendly for large families their seafood taste weeks old and flavorless, they have the hardest chicken in the world they have no good sides STAY AWAY FRON THEIR LETTUCE, TOMATOES, CORNBREAD, COLLARD GREENS, OKRA, MAC AND CHEESE AND FRIES. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR SIDES EVEN IF YOU DONT EAT THE MEAL! THEY DONT EVEN HAVE REMOULADE FOR SHRIMP PO BOYS!

  10/10 will be here again . I'm a cape fear resident through and through . my dad used to fish catfish - essentially for our survival (fun too) . I had their catfish and grits and I have never ordered catfish - only flounder . but this felt RIGHT . IT WAS, I ABOUT CRIED . SO DELICIOUS .. LIKE EATING YOUR CHILDHOOD (the flavors not the abuse, little joke there ) however I did order two fried flounders to go with grits and - hot dawg . . DONT SKIP THIS AUTHENTIC SOUTHERN RESTAURANT. - I wish I took a photo but I devoured it too quickly .

  Wow oh wow! The service at Melvin’s was impeccable, not to mention the phenomenal performance by my waitress Pfeifer. She was so nice and made sure my order came out quick.

  My large friend group and I checked this place out for the first time yesterday. Melvin’s is a bbq restaurant that’s been in business for 4 years, going on 5 in 2027. We got seated immediately. The service was great, Samantha checked on us often and took care of everything. She explained everything on the menu and highlighted the best things to try out. The food was delicious! I had the brisket sliders and the chicken teriyaki rice bowl with baked beans and mac n cheese for my sides. My entree came with a small cup of ice cream at the end which was also very tasty. I highly recommend checking this place out!
