Inspired by the wood-fired Robata grills of Japan, Mizu offers a refreshed take on live-fire cooking atop the Hyatt Centric in the heart of Charlotte’s SouthPark neighborhood. Led by the award-winning Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the rooftop restaurant combines the traditions of ancient Japanese cooking with Southern influences and Asian flavors. The chef offers a seafood-focused menu composed of wood-fired, raw, and chilled offerings, sushi, and shareable plates. True to the word Mizu’s translation to ‘water’ in Japanese, the space’s design takes inspiration from natural elements, which are incorporated throughout the chic, minimalist restaurant, and outdoor terrace with sweeping city views.

We had ben here a few times before and had excellent food and service. But today we waited 30 minutes to get our son’s birthday cake and check and Brussels sprouts were undercooked. Completely unacceptable and very unhappy with our experience.

This spot is amazing! Please know that it's a tapa's style restaurant and it's worth it if you're willing to spend the money. Me and my family loved it and the service was top tear. Also gratuity is automatically applied to your bill. They also have valet parking.

This restaurant gets a 3.5/5 start rating for me. The only good things I can mention this establishment has are good cocktail drinks, the sushi I ordered tasted really fresh and the ambience is nice. Other than that, my experience wasn’t so great and that’s unfortunate because I was really looking forward to having a great time considering all the reviews I read and saw on TikTok. First and foremost, I feel like if a restaurant is going to offer outdoor seating, they need to make sure their seating is dry. All of the chair and couches were wet because of the rain the day before and I sat down and my entire behind was wet. Keep in mind, I had on shorts. We started off ordering the coconut shrimp which came with 5-6 pieces of what looked like small sized shrimp— with no sauce to dip in, for almost $30. The lobster fried rice had a taste of nothing but lobster and salt. The lobster was overpowering the rice and vegetables that came in it. I did not like that. We ordered the “Robata Chicken” which an unexpected kick came with the chicken. It was spicy and salty at the same time. I didn’t like that. The Japanese potato salad that accompanied it was very salty as well. Our server wasn’t as attentive as she should have been that we ended up just paying for the food without really touching it because we were ready to go. Oh, and this restaurant is very overpriced for the quality and the amount of food you receive.

Do not recommend. This place isn’t worth the price for what you get. We were charged $15 for plain fries for my child—even though she didn’t want toppings, they wouldn’t allow a simple side order. The hand rolls were decent, and the asparagus was the best dish. Everything else fell flat. The robata chicken, in particular, felt poorly thought out—grilled skewers over potato salad with coleslaw underneath—and didn’t come together. We ordered two mocktails (one each) for a party of two (one adult, one child). My daughter enjoyed the dessert, but aside from that—and a small plate of asparagus—we barely finished anything. Service was fine, but not at the level you’d expect for the price point. Our total came to $175 (inclusive of tip) for a meal that didn’t match the cost. We would have preferred a more traditional Japanese or sushi experience over what’s presented here as an “elevated” concept. Wouldn’t return given the value and food quality.

Hm, for the price, I did not feel like it lived up to other experiences I have had at... this level, it was carried by the seabass and the atmosphere. I assume all their fish dishes will be great, as the seabass was special. The lobster fried rice... It was ok, it was partly crunchy and partly mushy, didn't taste as good, nor was complex to make up for it, as good hibachi fried rice. The lobster topping was an odd conglomeration and I wished it was just the lobster not lobster and the sauce. I think it was baked fried rice as it came in a ramakin and the top was crispy, but to me, as a rice dish, it just didn't work, in flavor or in mouth feel. The taki fries were, again, ok. The fries were good, and the sauces were ok, but just that, ok. Sauces drizzled haphazardly over a pile of good fries with a few shavings on top. The sake was amazing, and like I said the sea bass was incredible, I was warned it was a small portion, but for 30$, it was two bite sized pieces of sea bass each on a skewer, I wish the rest of the food was incredible and this was a special treat on top instead of feeling like a few bites of something amazing and some average rice and fries. Prob should have asked what they recommended. The outdoor seating was amazing, service was great, got to watch the most incredible sunset after dinner from the rooftop, but for two people you can have much better food for 100$ Maybe try the osusume for the chef's recommendations & experience, I may go again to try this with my wife :D we did really enjoy the atmosphere, view, and the staff was great. If it's great I'll change this review.
