I go to this store several times a week since I moved to the area in 2021. It is .5 miles down the road from my house so it is by far the most convenient grocery store for me. For the most part I like all of the employees - I do not have an issue with anyone personall nor have I seen anything from an employee that is questionable.
The issue is the numerous produce and meat items that are spoiled. I mean really spoiled. Two separate occasions, with 2 different types of potatoes, I grabbed a bag of them that were so foul smelling, I thought it was human feces. But it was moldy potatoes. I gave the items back to the cashier each time at the self checkout. The other day it was ground beef. It smelled terrible. The person near the self checkout also witnessed that one and agreed it was awful smelling. But me being kind of dumb, I still took the chicken. 2 large packages of boneless chicken thighs. Both were rotten when I unpackaged them to freeze them 2 days later (they had a use or freeze by date of the 19th, I purchased them on the 12th or 11th).
This has happened with the chicken before but I let it go.
I purchased a watermelon a couple of weeks ago. When I cut it open it began pouring, I mean really pouring like a bucket of water tipped over, and the inside felt like a grape. The texture was so digusting... I had never seen that before. I went to the food lion the next day and the box of watermelons were digusting... they had soft mushy spots all over them and discoloration. And they were just sitting in the box for sale.
The prepared food counter is just a nightmare now too. It used to be better - but now i swear they cook everything once or twice the entire day and let them sit there for 4 hours at a time until they are petrified.
Then there is the issue of being out of things constantly. The water section is commonly empty. And chicken will be marked for sale, but the chicken that is for sale isnt in stock. There isnt an empty section like it sold out - it just is surrounded by items that are not the thing thats on sale. Or it will say "Food Lion Chicken Thighs 1.99 per pound" but the large packages are still 3.79 per pound or whatever they cost - the cashier will have to investigate why it isnt ringing up, then theyll realize its just the tiny packages that are 1.99 per pound, but there was no indication on the sign, and there are no tiny packages anyway.
You cannot blame the employees - it is poorly managed. The employees are just going to do what theyre told to do, and if they arent doing something, the management isnt making sure they do. Whoever is the actual manager of the store seriously needs a corporate visit and inspection. It sucks because now I cannot rely on this place for meat or produce anymore. I will still run there for jarred sauces, canned goods, and the few packaged items I get from time to time, but they have completely lost my trust at this point.

Solid local option in a pocket neighborhood, with a variety of fresh or frozen selections. A decent bakery as well as the deli area should provide.
