We visited The Toasted Yolk for my sister’s birthday brunch and, while the food was amazing as always, the service was extremely disappointing.
Our server Vada only checked on us once and did not check to refill drinks or clear dirty dishes. We had to flag down another staff member just to get our server to return from the bar where she was talking to a guy for what seemed like majority of the time we were there. When she did return, her response—“I was needed?”— it came across as extremely rude and dismissive. After taking our cards, it also took about 10 minutes for them to be processed.
It’s frustrating because we genuinely enjoy The Toasted Yolk, and as people who work in the service industry, we understand busy shifts and don’t expect perfection. However, we do expect basic attentiveness and professionalism. Unfortunately, the service and attitude overshadowed an otherwise great meal, and we left feeling disappointed on what should have been a special occasion.

I’m really disappointed with my experience at The Toasted Yolk, especially because this was my birthday weekend and I was looking forward to having brunch with my friends. I rarely get the opportunity to enjoy brunch because I work at a brunch restaurant myself, so I was especially excited to be on the other side of the table for once.
Our server, Vada, only came to the table once to take our initial orders. We were never offered refills, including a coffee refill. My coffee actually got cold while we were waiting, and I was never asked if I wanted another one. We had to ask for refills ourselves. At one point, she disappeared for approximately 20 minutes. We eventually saw her standing at the bar talking to a man while we were waiting for service, and we had to flag someone else down just to get her attention. When she finally came to the table, she said, “I was needed,” which was frustrating considering we had been waiting for her.
The table was also never pre-bussed, and after we paid, it took approximately 10 minutes for her to return with our payments and to-go boxes. During that time, she was standing at the POS system laughing and joking with the same man she had previously been talking to at the bar.
What makes the experience even more disappointing is that we were nothing but kind and pleasant to her. We never complained, gave her an attitude, or made her feel like we were unhappy with her. In fact, we were genuinely excited to be there, enjoying ourselves, and looking forward to having a good birthday brunch with our friends. Despite that, we felt like she had a weird and noticeably unpleasant attitude toward us throughout the entire experience.
As someone who works in the service industry, I understand that restaurants get busy and that things happen. I also know how important tips are to servers, which is why I was genuinely looking forward to leaving her a good tip and making sure she was taken care of. Unfortunately, the level of service we received made that very difficult.
The one positive thing I can say is that I genuinely enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, the service really overshadowed that.
I was hoping to have a nice birthday brunch with my friends, and it’s especially unfortunate because I rarely get the opportunity to enjoy brunch due to my own work schedule. I specifically chose The Toasted Yolk because I wanted to have a good experience, and unfortunately, the service took away from what should have been a really enjoyable birthday outing. I hope management addresses this because the experience we had was far below the level of service I expected.
Came in on August 16 for a birthday brunch for my friend. There were 4 of us, just wanted to get a little brunch before we went on with our day. Food was great! Service was terrible. With me being in the service industry for 8 years, I have never received service as bad as this. Vada was our server and she came to the table 1 time in the two hours we were there. Waters refilled once, our other drinks never touched. We had to flag down other servers for ketchup, her… Essential things to be a good server right? Was not attentive at all, table left disgusting.. Not one plate was prebussed, not a check in on how everything was. Took our order and never came back. Then it came time to pay, she left with our debit cards for over 10 minutes while we watched her sit by the POS and proceed to giggle and talk to another gentleman while we worried what was happening with our payment. We have been here multiple times and had great service but this morning was really disappointing and things need to be handled accordingly because she will continue to stray business away from what is such a great business. Also whenever we asked a server for her, she came to the table and said “I was needed” with a terrible attitude. It’s embarrassing to be the face of a business with an attitude like that.
I found this location thru my gluten free app. After waiting 45 minutes for a table I was excited to eat! They have a dedicated gluten free menu.
I ordered the avocado toast with over medium eggs. Since I always leave reviews I take photos of my food. The bread slice was large and buttery golden toasted. I took a bite and immediately knew this was NOT gluten free bread. I asked the waiter and he did it should be but would confirm with the back. It wasn't GF! He apologized and took my food to have it remade. When it came back out I looked and could confirm that it was GF bread by eye sight. I stated eating it and there was the top of the avocado in it that I bit into. I started looking closely at the toast to make sure no other pieces were in it. Well there was skin and the sticker in my smashed avocado! Needless to say at that point I asked for a manager.
The manager was really nice and apologetic. Offered to remake my food but by that point I had trust issues so I declined and let my partner finish his meal.
A co owner, John, came to our table and did they were comping the entire meal. He was so nice, said if I needed medical attention for eating the bite they would cover it. He provided his personal number so I could keep in touch.
The customer service was amazing. He assured me this is not how things are normally at the restaurant. We discussed that this was a good training moment for his staff. John also offered to make my meal again which I did still decline but he in fact did make me a great iced coffee instead.

The Toasted Yolk was an easy 10/10 for brunch! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was great, and we had an all-around wonderful experience.
I ordered the brisket breakfast tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. The brisket was tender, and the flavor was spot on. Every bite was packed with seasoning, and I would definitely order them again.
We also tried the Belgian waffle, and it was amazing—light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. It was one of the best waffles I've had in a while.
One of my friends ordered the biscuits and gravy-style breakfast, and she really enjoyed it. The grits that came with it were especially good—smooth, creamy, and the perfect consistency. Another friend ordered the Nashville hot chicken with an over-medium egg and fresh fruit, and she loved her meal as well.
Overall, every dish at our table was a hit. If you're looking for a great brunch spot with flavorful food and plenty of options, The Toasted Yolk is definitely worth a visit.
