We visited Clay Oven on August 12 around noon to celebrate our anniversary, and unfortunately, it turned into a disgusting and extremely disappointing experience. The food was far below what we expected. Almost everything had an overpowering sour taste, seemingly from the excessive addition of dry mango powder (amchur), to the point that it was almost inedible. The idli was extremely disappointing — more like dry crumbs of suji than actual idli. The sambar was thick and tasted like uncooked dal, with none of the flavor or consistency we expected from a good South Indian restaurant. And the atmosphere made the evening even worse. We were there for our anniversary, but the music was incredibly sad and depressing. The person seemed to play one heartbreak song after another, which was completely inappropriate for what was supposed to be a special celebration. Overall, the food was poor, the atmosphere was miserable, and the experience was absolutely not worth the money. We left extremely disappointed and would not recommend Clay Oven based on our experience.

Our family comes here at least once a month! It’s our favorite Indian food in the west metro! The food is always so fresh, so please keep that in mind when it comes to wait times. This is no fast food/quick serve. Everything is so fresh and piping hot! We can’t get enough! Our recommendations: Clay Oven sampler platter, Shrimp or Chicken Mehkani, and get EXTRA garlic naan! YUMMY!

We loved the food... full marks to Clay Oven We ordered keema naan (flatbread stuffed with minced meat) and kadai chicken (a slow cooked version of chicken with thick gravy). And we ordered some Amrtsari Kulche (flat bread stuffed with spiced up mashed potatoes) and chhole( chickpeas made North Indian style). The food was very very good. As good as it could be - no extra oil / butter or spices, just optimal. This was a taste test for us. These are not simple dishes but hand picked diffult dishes. Clay Oven may be the best North Indian food restaurant in the Twin Cities, on date and I would recommend it to my friends.

Had a great experience yesterday. The chicken tikka masala with garlic nan was a spot on! The desert gulab jamun was also great. Most importantly the service of the young gentleman shammu was great as well. Wonderful gentleman who provided us with extra napkins, forks when asked pretty quick.
