- DBDavid BergmanOct 4, 20265.0Funny thing... though I'm not sure it's really all that funny. I guess I'm just trying to make light of what I was dealing with in my head. I went grocery shopping at Cub Foods in St. Michael yesterday, and the looks I got because my nails were painted. SMH I had my nails done because I did a trial run of my Halloween look. Today, I wanted a salad for lunch, so I set out to find somewhere to eat. The whole time I was thinking, "Where can I go where I'm not going to have to deal with all the looks?" I didn't want to drive all the way downtown Minneapolis, where I know I'd feel more safe and comfortable. Then I started wondering where I could sit that wouldn't put me in everyone's view. I decided to stop at Caribou and go through the drive-thru while I figured it out. I placed my order, pulled up to the window, and put my credit card into the card reader. As I was pushing the buttons to add a tip, I heard the employee say, "I love your nails." I looked up, and it was a young person with black hair and purple streaks. I honestly thought I was hiding pretty well. I thanked them and told them, "I love your hair." As I drove away, I started thinking: if this young person can spend all day at work dealing with people and still confidently be themselves, why can't I? Why am I so worried about the negative looks? I've always tried to wear something or do something that lets other people in our community know they aren't alone, that I'm here too. Without even realizing it, this young person got me out of my own head and reminded me why I do what I do. It's sad that so many ignorant people don't seem to understand that people are simply living their lives and being themselves. We don't need your negative opinions or judgmental looks. Keep them to yourself. We're not doing anything that affects your life. What struck me most was that I had spent so much energy worrying about the people who might judge me that I almost missed the people who would accept me exactly as I am. Sometimes, all it takes is one small interaction to remind you that you're not alone. It just feels sad that we've come so far, only to seem like we're sliding backward again. THANK YOU TO THAT BEAUTIFUL CARIBOU EMPLOYEE. ❤

- AAAriSep 11, 20231.0Stingy. My boyfriend and I paid for 2 drink, he usually likes the pumpkin flavor so that’s what he got, but when he tried it he said it was not good at all. We went around and told the barista and she told us they cannot swap out our drink without us having to pay for an extra drink, she said if it wasn’t made incorrectly then they can’t. I was so confused because this has never happened and we are regulars. Might as well go else where if they can’t even do a nice customer service gesture and swap out a drink that tasted horrible, especially when it was a one time thing because the drink really tasted bad… Ridiculous; but I guess this is a new caribou thing at many of their locations. Apparently they can’t remake a nasty drink you don’t like but instead make you pay again. I have never heard of such a thing from any coffee shop or experienced such stingy service. The baristas were nice and I don’t blame them personally for doing their jobs, but caribou in general with their new “policies” sucks. I have never had this issue at any other coffee shop. I’m a rewards member and typically buy 3 drinks on the daily and reload hundreds onto my app and they give me an issue over getting one measly poorly made drink remade or swapped- thats not very good customer service especially for a regular. Taking our business elsewhere where they can provide a normal customer service courtesy- my entire family was so disappointed as well, but I guess we will just go elsewhere from now on. Any other coffee shop I have been to has never and would never.
