Tried to make a reservation and the young lady on the phone refused to give her name told me that she didnt want a large group coming in on Saturday to eat there. Wanted to make a reservation for 8 people, and she told me that (even thelough there was space on the books for 8) there were other places in town that I could go. Flabergasted at how rude and unprofessional she was. Will not be going back.

I highly recommend the white fish tater tot appetizer, the fish and chips, as well as the superior tacos. While I enjoyed my meal everything was a bit blander then I would have liked. It felt like everything I tried was one ingredient off being amazing.

Marquette MI - fantastic experience, it was Saturday night, the dining room was busy (15 minute wait) we chose to take an immediate table in the bar area. Our bartender waitress was FANTASTIC, equal parts great humor, superior service, impeccable timing. There’s absolutely no way the dining staff could be better than her. We got burgers and they were delicious. This is a really cool joint with patio seating overlooking the Bay Area available too. Price point was a real value, might have been the best value of the trip. Parking is on street and we had to park a block away. Bartender was the best!

The Iron Bay serves delicious pub food in a lovely, simple space. The restaurant has a small view of the lake from inside the restaurant. We had the Lake Superior whitefish with fries, whitefish tacos, whitefish chowder, wine, and an old-fashioned. Yes, you MUST have whitefish while in the Upper Peninsula! The food was out of this world. Our server, Brandon, was upbeat and friendly. Just delightful! He helped us decide on food, and at the end, he didn't come by while we were still eating and ask, "Are you still working on that?" (That is so irritating to older people like us!) Instead, he asked if he could show us the dessert menu and was happy when we said yes. Very nice guy. The menu at this restaurant says that all fees and taxes are included in the menu price. When we got our bill, a 4% service fee and state sales tax were itemized. When I raised questions, Brandon explained that the price on the menu already includes this service fee and sales tax. The bill just breaks everything down for you. Example: The fish tacos listed on the menu for $24 but the bill lists it for $21 plus service fee and taxes. It's extremely confusing. I'm not even sure the math is accurate, but that was OK with me, as Brandon explained that the service fee is to compensate the cooks and clean-up staff. This is absolutely not explained anywhere in writing. However, Brandon was able to explain to my satisfaction, and I was happy to know that the management is looking out for their employees. Good service still deserves good pay in this country. At the moment it does, anyway. For the consumer's education: The only reason I ask these questions is that restaurants are starting to add various extra fees for all kinds of reasons, and customers and servers are confused. Frankly, I'm tired of it. MasterCard and Visa allow "swipe fees" for credit cards to be passed along to the consumer, but **they prohibit fees from being charged on debit card transactions**. OK, that's my soapbox. I just wanted to understand what the service fee is for at the Iron Bay. The fee at the Iron Bay restaurant is not a credit card fee. The fee applies, no matter how you pay. California wine country restaurants often charge a similar fee, but in California the menu adequately explains that the fee compensates the staff behind the scenes. My recommendation is for the Iron Bay to follow that example and put it on the menu so that servers don't have to explain it. Omitting the explanation is a waste of everybody's time. The evening was a success for me, because I got to sit in a lovely space, having wonderful food with my husband. Thanks to everyone both behind and in front of the scene for making it possible.

The Iron Bay Restaurant is quite the cozy find for great dining with a view of the water. This brewery has a fantastic selection of craft beer and a great food menu, featuring a lot of local favorites. We really enjoyed the Whitefish and pickled watermelon rind appetizer, the lamb shank sandwich, and the fish tacos. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. You can sit inside the brewery by the main bar, sit in the indoor restaurant areas our sit outside on the patio. The restaurant has a wonderful historic appeal and a lot of history to read about while you are there. The baked goods did not disappoint! I would highly recommend dining here if you are looking for a place that resonates local food and culture. 🍻
